She is someone who carries a weight around with her, something that drags her down, makes her feel unworthy and never truly allows her to reach her full potential. Alongside these, Dramis gives us a well built cast of side characters who I adored, especially Tova, the third member of the Queen court and Josie, Aidon s sister.

The divine curse of Saint Kate

DISCOVER THE EPIC NEW ROMANTIC FANTASY EVERYONE HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT!

As an elite spy and the Queen’s Third-in-Command, Aya has dedicated herself to a life of discipline and duty, using her gods-given abilities to keep dark magic from ever returning to the realm. Her oath ensures she will always act to protect those she fights alongside—including Will, the Queen’s Enforcer and Aya’s bitter rival.

Forced by circumstance to work together, Aya and Will struggle to come to an uneasy truce. But when tragedy strikes, Aya instinctively reacts, unleashing a power that hasn’t been seen in over 500 years. Shaken, she’s confronted with an impossible truth: one that threatens the precious grip she keeps on her control. One that forces her to work with Will to discover who—or what—she really is. And one that could turn her into a weapon in a war she doesn’t know how to win. With Will at her side and untold power at her fingertips, Aya will have to decide: Has she been sent to save the realm she loves…or destroy it?

And that’s not all, because what better way to get you excited than to actually show you some of the book? That’s right, here’s an exclusive excerpt:

She’d had two weeks to wrestle with Gianna’s words. Two weeks to play her past on repeat as night bled into the early hours of morning. Two weeks to try to suffocate the tiny seed of hope that had taken root inside of her, the one that said perhaps Gianna was right about her power.

Because if her queen was right, if the prophecy did indeed speak of her, then that meant—

Aya cut off the thought immediately. It did her no good to cling to foolish hopes. Gianna could claim what she wanted. Aya knew the truth.

She was no saint. She was not the light her mother used to whisper about in those tales she told late at night about Evie and her equal.

Would her mother have ever imagined that one day someone would think her prideful, stubborn daughter was the one the Conoscenza spoke of?

Even then, Aya had been a serious, reserved child. The winter wind to her mother’s warm and comforting spring breeze. A cautious soul, her mother had once whispered as she tucked her into her side. But with a burning flame of love saved for those who warrant it.

But whatever flame she had sensed in Aya had been doused as soon as her own had been extinguished on the waves of the Anath Sea. And Aya had buried her fear, her pain, her guilt, and leaned instead into the only thing that made sense.

Control. Discipline. Distance.

She had found her place in shadows and darkness, in cold alleyways and dilapidated bars, in the smooth handle of a dagger and sharp steel of a blade.

She was not a beacon of light.

She was not a savior of nations or realms.

If the gods had chosen her, they had chosen wrong.

But Will had been right. She was dangerous.

So Aya would do what she did best. She would bury her fear and hone her anger into something cold, and quiet, and lethal.

Something that slipped through the night without detection.

Something that people never saw coming.

Something that could loosen secrets, and win allies, and maybe, just maybe, channel what was inside of her to aid in the coming war.

For the oath she had taken to protect her kingdom.

And perhaps for herself, too.

Reviews for "Experience the Action and Magic in Mashle: Magic and Muscles Ep 1 (Eng Sub)"

1. Sarah - 2/5 stars - I was excited to watch Mashle: Magic and Muscles since it seemed like an interesting concept, but I was left disappointed after watching the first episode. The story felt rushed and poorly developed, making it difficult to connect with the characters or understand their motivations. Additionally, the animation quality was subpar, with choppy movements and lackluster art. Overall, I found the first episode lacking in substance and failed to hold my interest.
2. Michael - 2/5 stars - As a fan of both magic and action anime, I was looking forward to Mashle: Magic and Muscles. However, the first episode didn't live up to my expectations. The main character's overpowered nature and lack of vulnerability made the action scenes feel predictable and unexciting. Furthermore, the humor fell flat, lacking cleverness and relying heavily on slapstick comedy. The visuals were average, and the dialogue felt poorly written at times. Overall, I found the first episode to be lackluster and lacking the depth and excitement I anticipated.
3. Emily - 1/5 stars - I hated Mashle: Magic and Muscles from the first episode. The plot was incredibly generic, following the typical "overpowered protagonist" trope without any unique twists. The character designs were uninspired, and the animation quality was mediocre at best. The humor, which seemed to be one of the main selling points, was repetitive and relied heavily on crude jokes. Overall, I found the first episode to be a forgettable and unenjoyable experience. I don't see myself continuing with this series.
4. James - 2/5 stars - I was hoping for a fresh and exciting take on the magic genre with Mashle: Magic and Muscles, but I was let down by the first episode. The story felt cliché and lacked originality, with a predictable narrative and dull characters. The animation and art, while not terrible, failed to impress and lacked the vibrant and captivating visuals I expect from modern anime. Considering the high standards set by other shows in this genre, Mashle: Magic and Muscles fell short and failed to capture my interest.
