If anything I believe that as an adult reader, this lovely book reminded me of how fortunate younger readers are to have such ingenious middle grade fantasy worlds to dive into with what’s being published right now. Again as an older reader though, there are moments for me Eva’s thoughts about her worthiness and vulnerabilities can be a bit repetitive and the underlying storyline about the Culling (a magical force of nature) did feel established in the beginning, but doesn’t get explored too much until the end which made that element feel rather rushed.
My magical witch godmother

Suddenly, a voice echoed through the room, "Welcome, Emily, to my humble abode." Startled, she turned around to see a magnificent, old woman with sparkling eyes and a mischievous smile. "I am your magical witch godmother," she declared. Emily's eyes widened in amazement. She had always wished for an encounter with magical beings, and here she was, face-to-face with her very own witch godmother. The old woman's name was Magdalena, and she possessed incredible powers beyond Emily's wildest imagination. Over the next few months, Magdalena taught Emily the ways of magic. She showed her how to brew potions, cast spells, and harness the energy of the elements. Emily's life transformed from one of ordinary routine to a realm of extraordinary possibilities. With Magdalena's guidance, Emily discovered her own inner strength and potential. She learned to control the elements, to heal wounds, and to bring joy to those around her. Each day, she grew more confident in her abilities and embraced her newfound identity as a witch. But it wasn't just about spells and potions. Magdalena also emphasized the importance of using magic responsibly and for the greater good. She taught Emily that magic was a powerful tool that should be used to bring happiness and harmony, rather than for personal gain. As time went on, Emily became known as the village's beloved witch, using her powers to help those in need. Her magical abilities made her a beacon of hope and inspiration for others, and the village flourished under her watchful eye. Though Emily was immensely grateful for all that Magdalena had taught her, she knew that her time with her magical witch godmother would eventually come to an end. As Magdalena's powers began to dwindle with age, she took solace in the fact that Emily had become a competent and compassionate witch, ready to pass on her knowledge to the next generation. In the end, Emily realized that her encounter with Magdalena was not just a stroke of luck, but a testament to her own destiny. She was meant to become a witch and use her powers to make the world a better place. With fond memories of her magical witch godmother, Emily embarked on a lifelong journey of spreading magic, love, and kindness wherever she went..
