Atre7u, also known as the curse of Atreus, is a legendary curse that dates back to ancient Greek mythology. It is a curse that plagued the members of the house of Atreus, a royal family of Mycenae. The curse is said to have originated from the gruesome acts committed by the family, leading to a never-ending cycle of violence, betrayal, and tragedy. The curse began with Tantalus, a member of the house of Atreus. Tantalus was known for his arrogance and pride, which led him to commit unspeakable acts. He killed his own son Pelops and served him as a meal to the gods.

The first thing I noticed about this record though was the horrible cover art; a model in just a bra and underwear with vampire fangs instead of teeth- so utterly ridiculous. Sure enough, a few years down the line, Atreyu is on Ozzfest, selling out shows to random teens in AFI shirts and moving units like it s going out of style.

This act enraged the gods, and as a punishment, Tantalus was condemned to eternal torment in the underworld, where he was forever tantalized and starved. The curse continued with Atreus, the son of Pelops, who sought revenge against his brother Thyestes.

The Curse is the second studio album by American metalcore band Atreyu. It was released on June 29th, 2004, to generally mixed to positive reviews. It is the band's best album and most well known for the songs "Right Side Of The Bed", "The Crimson", and "Bleeding Mascara".
Atreus killed Thyestes' sons and served them to him, just like his father had done. This act of revenge further deepened the curse, as it brought about a cycle of violence and betrayal. The curse reached its peak with the next generation of the house of Atreus. Agamemnon, the son of Atreus, sacrificed his own daughter Iphigenia to appease the gods and gain favorable winds for the Trojan War. This heinous act angered his wife Clytemnestra, who conspired with her lover Aegisthus to murder Agamemnon upon his return from the war. Clytemnestra's action sparked a chain of events that led to the downfall of the house of Atreus. Agamemnon's son Orestes, driven by the duty to avenge his father's murder, killed his mother and her lover. However, this act of revenge did not bring any peace to Orestes. In fact, it only deepened the curse, as he was haunted by the Furies, the goddesses of vengeance. Orestes sought refuge in the temple of Apollo, who instructed him to seek a trial in Athens. Orestes was put on trial for matricide, and the goddess Athena presided over the trial. Ultimately, Orestes was acquitted, but the curse of Atreus continued to follow him, and he was plagued by guilt and torment. The curse of Atreus serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of greed, pride, and revenge. It highlights the destructive power of these vices and how they can lead to the downfall of individuals and families.
