Strategies for using bursting spells effectively in Final Fantasy XI

By admin

In Final Fantasy XI, bursting spells are a unique feature that allows players to increase the potency of their magic attacks by coordinating with other players. When casting a spell, players have the opportunity to "burst" the spell by timing it to coincide with the effects of certain weapon skills or other spells. This results in an amplified effect, dealing more damage or having additional effects. Bursting spells require careful coordination and communication among players, as the timing must be precise to maximize their effectiveness. Different combinations of weapon skills or spells can create various bursts, each with its own unique effects. Bursting spells not only add an extra layer of strategy to battles in Final Fantasy XI, but they also encourage cooperation and teamwork among players.

A magic burst is the effect created when a spell, or certain other abilities, is successfully cast upon a target, within a specific window of time after a Skillchain has been performed. Effects that can create a magic burst, are spells, bard songs, ninjitsu, Blood Pacts from an Avatar, or a wyvern's breath attack. In order to create a Magic Burst, the element of the spell or effect must match the element of the Skillchain. The spell must finish casting within five seconds of the Skillchain's animation to produce a magic burst.

I have been playing BLU for long time, I never found Burst Affinity useful to me, either I find it costly to cast Magical blue magic or can be easily interrupted If I tried to self skill chain then self magic burst. (knock back, silenced, interrupted by others player ws…est.) even if it work, I can’t find it that much rewarding. Still physical magic faster and has much higher damage.

I need advice from you guys, is there a truly practical way to use Burst Affinity? Or do I just ready my Macro to Burst Affinity whenever I see light or darkness SC that has been done by others? I usually do CDC with Sinker Drill which result Darkness.

Burst affinity is pretty sloppy without proper knowledge of skill chain properties;

Diffusion ray / rail cannon are the best spells to burst with. And I'm usually bursting off of a SAMs skill chain light vs trying to create my own. With that being said, u don't need to burst affinity off just urself, u can use other DD jobs for this purpose.( it's nice to see 15-30k diffusion rays / rail cannons)

And physical magic is much more inefficient if you have proper magic attack bonus armors , an example would be subduction 3-4k Dmg 36 mp 1-3 second recast vs sinker drill 4 hit (which feeds the enemy up to 40% tp)

I find myself just spamming AOE magics vs using physical magic, and I'm usually the person with the most hate due to this :(

More than one magic burst can happen at the same time (i.e. two different people can cast two different spells, as long both spells are the correct elemental type). They will not interfere with each other. Characters can also magic burst a Skillchain that they helped create.

1. John - 1/5 stars - Bursting spells in Final Fantasy XI are a complete disappointment. Not only do they lack any real impact or visual effects, but they also fail to provide any strategic advantage in battles. The concept of combining multiple spells to create a burst effect seemed promising, but the execution falls flat. The damage output is significantly lower compared to other spells, making bursting spells useless in most scenarios. Overall, it's a wasted opportunity for an exciting gameplay mechanic.
2. Sarah - 2/5 stars - Bursting spells in Final Fantasy XI don't live up to the hype. The idea of combining spells to unleash a more powerful attack sounds great on paper, but the implementation fails to impress. The burst effect is underwhelming, and the damage output is often lackluster. Additionally, the mechanics required to trigger these spells can be convoluted and time-consuming, making them more of a hassle than a rewarding gameplay element. I was genuinely excited about bursting spells, but sadly, they turned out to be a disappointing aspect of the game.
3. Alex - 2/5 stars - Bursting spells in Final Fantasy XI are a missed opportunity. While the concept of combining spells to create a burst effect is intriguing, the execution leaves much to be desired. The damage output is often inconsistent and doesn't justify the effort required to trigger these spells. Moreover, the visual effects are underwhelming, making them feel even less impactful. It's a shame because bursting spells had the potential to add depth and excitement to battles, but they fall short in their current state.
4. Emily - 1/5 stars - Bursting spells in Final Fantasy XI are a letdown. They are lackluster and pale in comparison to other spellcasting mechanics in the game. The burst effect is hardly noticeable, and the damage they inflict is far from impressive. It feels like a wasted opportunity to introduce a compelling and strategic element to the gameplay. Bursting spells often end up as a gimmick rather than a valuable tool for players. I wouldn't recommend putting much effort into exploring this aspect of the game.
5. William - 2/5 stars - Bursting spells in Final Fantasy XI leave much to be desired. While the idea of combining spells for a more powerful attack is intriguing, the actual execution is lackluster. The damage output can be underwhelming, and the visual effects fail to make these spells stand out. In the end, bursting spells feel like an unnecessary addition that adds complexity without adding significant value to the gameplay. It's a shame because with some improvements, these spells could have been a truly exciting and strategic aspect of the game.
