Similar to the end of The Legend of the Christmas Witch , The Return of the Christmas Witch ends by setting up the possibility of a third story in what could become a series. In Caruso s tale Mina Lumina Rosso is a descendant of the original Christmas Witch, destined to be unlucky in love although as seen by her mother Sophia, and Nonno, being unlucky in love doesn t preclude making babies for the next generation of Christmas Witch.

The Legend of the Christmas Witch

Copper-haired infants abandoned in the Black Forest come to disparate ends in this “forgotten” dark myth. Though young Kristtörn and Kristoffer share the “gift of swiftness” and a life in the woods, the arrival of a cinnamon bun–toting Danish couple—the Kringles—ends with pastry-intent Kristoffer abandoning his sister, who is subsequently taken in by the Yule Witch Lutzelfrau. While Kristoffer learns his adoptive woodcutter father’s trade and internalizes “a strong sense of duty and hard work,” Kristtörn lives “a wild, carefree life in the forest,” learning magic but proving mercurial. When disregarding Lutzelfrau’s counsel ends in a flight to the South Pole, Kristtörn takes up a seasonal search for her North Pole–dwelling twin. Employing fairy tale diction, producer Murphy and actor Plaza meld pagan and Christian elements into blocks of text elevated through Iredale’s moody folk art. Though the story upholds folktales’ neither-here-nor-there ethics, an exploration of male privilege ends up punishing the temperamental female protagonist, undercutting the spooky seasonal telling. All characters read as white. Ages 5–8. (Oct.)

Reviews for "Unleash Your Inner Mermaid with LA Colors Mermaid Magic Shades"

1. Alice - 2/5 stars - I was really disappointed with the La Colors Mermaid Magic Shades. I found the pigmentation to be extremely poor, the colors were barely visible on my skin, even after multiple layers. The shades also faded quickly and did not last throughout the day. Additionally, the formula was quite patchy and it was difficult to achieve a smooth application. Overall, I would not recommend these shades as they did not meet my expectations.
2. John - 3/5 stars - I have mixed feelings about the La Colors Mermaid Magic Shades. While some of the shades in the palette were decently pigmented and provided a nice shimmer, I found that some of the colors were too sheer and required several layers to build up any intensity. The lasting power was average, but I did notice some creasing after a few hours. I also wasn't a fan of the packaging as it felt quite flimsy and cheap. If you're on a budget and just looking to experiment with some mermaid-inspired shades, these might be worth a try, but personally, I was left wanting more.
3. Sarah - 2/5 stars - I regret purchasing the La Colors Mermaid Magic Shades. The colors appeared vibrant and stunning in the palette, but they lacked pigmentation on the skin. I had to apply multiple layers to achieve a mediocre payoff, which was frustrating. The shades also had a lot of fallout, creating a messy application process. Additionally, the lasting power was disappointing as the colors faded quickly throughout the day. Save your money and invest in a higher quality eyeshadow palette instead.
