It’s hard to see that coming. Rolex has been increasing sizes on everything over the last few years. Seems like it’s all trending that way. I’d guess we see a ceramic bezel Explorer II as a revamp before we see a size change.

It's a sports watch and 42 is just about perfect and rightly sits between Sub41 and SD43. There is no point it making smaller than even OP41 now. So, don't keep your hopes and it doesn't look a possibility. They may add a ceramic bezel(it doesn't need one) with updated movement and that's about it. Size is perfect for sports watch! It was not a great seller at 40mm and was too small!

I don't see them reducing the size of Explorer 2. My prediction is a 40mm explorer and a 42mm explorer 2, both with updated movements. Ceramic bezel on the E2.

I'm on the list at an AD after putting down a 50% deposit on the Explorer 2. I'm hoping my place in line doesn't come up until after next year's update. I'm going to rotate a SD43 and the polar explorer 2 every few days, alternating black and white faces. Very excited.

really love my 216570 with black dial. A non-rotating black ceramic bezel with the same shape and fonts would be quite nice.

All I can say is that I would love it!

I sold my 42mm E2 ‘cos it felt too big for my wrist. 40mm would be perfect! Although, 41mm seems to be the new thing now.

I do not think it wears like the 40mm at all; for me it wears much larger. How big is your wrist? The 16570 wears perfectly on me, but the 216570 has a much greater lug-to-lug (or end-link-to end-link) distance, and it just hangs off both sides of my wrist- that really makes it unwearable for me.

I'm one of those hoping for a return to 40mm for the 50th anniversary and a green GMT hand to mark the occasion. If they disappoint, then it will be a Polar 16570 for me.

I think it'll be a new white 39 with 3230 and same Explorer II but with a new 3235 derived caliber, but I'd not be shocked with a new 41mm Explorer II

If they put a ceramic bezel on it, I think the general profile of it will be closer to a Daytona than a GMT. The Daytona has that smooth outer edge, where as the GMT has the gnarling for grip.

Even though the SS bezel on the current Explorer 2 looks awesome, it is the Achilles heel of the watch. Once you get a big nasty scratch on it, there is no going back.

I would bet 42mm, probably a ceramic bezel (unfortunately). I would love to see a dark green (forest green) matte dial for 50th anniversary.

New movement is probably a safe bet along with minor case refinements. Which of the latter is anybody’s guess till a reliable leak or reveal!

This for sure will NOT be the case. they all pulled out of Basel and I doubt there will even be a Baselworld 2021 . not sure if this was a woosh or not

I don’t say this to be rude; I say this because your post implies your purchase decision will be based on what people guess could happen to the Exp II next year.

Do you like the 42mm or not? If no, wait and see what happens. If yes, buy now and sell to upgrade or just add the new watch. Simple as that.

I love the watch and have gone back and forth on whether I like the size, but I haven’t gotten to the point of actually buying yet. It is a really great looking watch (the white dial six digit). Find a used watch place and try on the current 42mm vs the previous 40mm. I thought the 40mm wore too small for my taste, but it is also a great looking watch.

I think they would widen the bracelet � la new sub before they�d take the case size down. For the ceramic bezel - not gonna happen IMO. Steel bezel is part of the identity of the watch and a ceramic bezel would not fit the narrative of climbing mountains and exploring caves (potentially knocking it into a rock and shattering the ceramic).

i don�t see it happening.. maybe a green arrow and explorer 2 text as an anniversary addition?!
i have a feeling the bezel will go ceramic, as that seems to be the trend, referring to the daytona atleast..

I expect we'll see some green accents, and at some point possibly a ceramic bezel (perhaps with a finish similar to the current steel bezel). What I'd really like to see is a Triplock crown, for aesthetic reasons and to bring it into line with the other pro/sports watches.
