My 1999 25C Six-sleeper has the original low profile Thetford Aqua Magic IV that won't hold water at the blade valve seal. I have never liked this plastic toilet, so looking to replace it anyway, rather than repair. Has anyone ever replaced one of these with a Thetford china bowl toilet? If so, which one?

Thankfully I had just enough to work, but it was close, in fact the lid strikes the wall before hitting its back stop, and if it were 1 3 inch less clearance the lid would not stay open on its own. I want to replace mine with a ceramic toilet and was wondering if you have any advice I have a Sunline Solaris, actually, but found your post just thru Google.

Hi, JC.
I replaced our 2002 model Thetford about five years ago, not because it failed but because it was uncomfortable to use 14 height, round shape, left foot pedal (my DW sometimes has left foot/leg issues.
My replacement of choice was the Dometic model 320. It has a ceramic bowl, residential height and size (elongated), a right foot pedal (facing the unit), includes a residential style wooden (white painted) seat. Their standard size is 18 inches high- very comfortable- also available in a low profile 14 height if desired. Available with or without sprayer hose. Opt in for the sprayer- much better.
Installation will be a breeze. It uses the standard sealing ring and floor flange. The Dometic is a two-bolt hold down whereas the Thetford (iirc) is a four bolt. This makes no difference other than you may have to buy a new floor flange (unlikely).

I also replaced an older Thetford model with a Dometic 320, biggest issue was water inlet location needing a new flex hose to reach, but also the Dometic 320 needed more back spacing to the wall than the previous Thetford did. Thankfully I had just enough to work, but it was close, in fact the lid strikes the wall before hitting its back stop, and if it were 1/3 inch less clearance the lid would not stay open on its own..

Isaac is right. I forgot to mention the clearances.
Youll require min 12inches each side for the Dometic, measured from CL of the waste pipe. Also, waste pipe CL must be min 12-1/2 from the back wall.

Reviews for "How Thetford EV Toilet Aqua Magic IV Enhances the RVing Experience"

- Jane - 1 star - This toilet is the worst! It constantly clogs up and requires constant maintenance. I have had to call a plumber multiple times to fix it. It is also very noisy and the flush is not strong enough to remove waste properly. I would not recommend this toilet to anyone.
- Mark - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with this toilet. The bowl is too shallow and the water level is too low, which means the waste often sticks to the sides. I constantly have to use a brush to clean it, which is very frustrating. The flush button is also poorly designed and doesn't always work properly. Overall, I wouldn't buy this toilet again.
- Sarah - 2 stars - I found this toilet to be very uncomfortable. The seat is too small and the shape is not ergonomic. It also has a strange smell that lingers even after cleaning. The flushing mechanism is also unreliable and often gets stuck, which is very inconvenient. I regret purchasing this toilet and would not recommend it to others.
- Michael - 1 star - This toilet is a nightmare. The water pressure is too low and it takes forever to fully flush. The waste often gets stuck and requires manual intervention to remove, which is disgusting. This toilet also leaks water, causing damage to my bathroom floor. Save yourself the trouble and stay away from this model.
