The Creek Indian tribe, also known as Muscogee, is an indigenous group that originally resided in the southeastern United States, particularly in what is now Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. They were one of the Five Civilized Tribes, which also included the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole tribes. The Creek Indians had a complex political and social structure, with a matrilineal society where the position of leadership was inherited through the mother's line. They lived in villages that consisted of rectangular houses made from mud and pole frames. Each village had a central square, where public ceremonies and tribal meetings took place. Historically, the Creek Indians were a farming people, primarily cultivating corn, beans, and squash.
