Exploring the Fascinating Traditions of August Pagan Festivals

By admin

August is a month filled with pagan observances and festivals. Many ancient cultures celebrated various rites and rituals during this time. One of the most well-known pagan observances in August is Lammas, also known as Lughnasadh. This festival marks the beginning of the harvest season and is often associated with the Celtic god Lugh. Lammas is a time of giving thanks for the abundance of the earth and the bountiful harvest that is to come. Another significant observance in August is the Festival of Hecate, a Greek goddess associated with witchcraft, magic, and the night.

Today also happens to be the Blessing of Boats, in Ancient Egyptian History.

Lughnasadh is sometimes overlooked due to a change in lifestyle from the traditional harvest schedule; however, it is still one of the four significant sabbats in Wicca. He will rule the next several months as Lord of Shadow in the Underworld and like the Grain, which drops it s seed into the Earth Our Mother Goddess , he holds the promise of being reborn come Spring.
