I have the Osborne book Classic Illusions vol 1 Does anyone know where I can find more detailed plans for the Modern Cabinet and other illusions?

Abbott's plans are not as "pretty" as Osborne's, but they do tend to have actual dimensions of the parts needed to build the prop.

You might also want to see if Owen Magic Supreme sells plans. I have seen reproductions of some of their plans in older magazines, and they are very complete, even including detailed parts lists.

"Great Illusions of Magic" by Byron Wels (2 volume set) is full of great plans, mostly reproduction of old Thayer blueprints. I believe the Modern Cabinet is in there.

I built the "Modern Cabinet" from the Osbourne book several years ago, but themed it to be an instant photo booth so that when the cabinet was first shown empty and the curtain pulled across, flashes of light were seen, then a large photo of my assistant was spit out the side of the booth (or in some cases the CEO of a company or organization representative), then the curtain was pulled back and the person stepped out. Building from the Osbourne book was very easy - you really don't want specific sizes on the plans because you may want to build it exactly to the size of your assistant, or in my case I made it a larger "one-size-fits-all" so I could fit practically anyone into it. It all depends on your needs. Use a cardboard template for the bottom base for the right size, then figure out how tall it should be according to your needs. It is basically a very simple framework. I'm not a skilled carpenter but was able to put one together with no real problems and it has survived many many shows. The fact that the walls are actually built like flats that fold and are all covered with material makes it very light weight and easy to haul around in even a small vehicle. Use your imagination!

Truly there is very little in the last 10 years that I would wholehearted recommend.
Have you read Bob Cassidy? If not start with book 2, fundamentals.
I would avoid like the plague anything by Peter Turner or Fraser Parker. Lots of nice ideas, very little practical mentalism. Theres a chance that in another 30 years the pair of them may have had the chance to actually go out and try some of their material in the real world, practice it, refine it and perfect it. Then they may have a good book in them, for now though its an awful lot of unworkable, in the real world, material.
I'd say the best book I've read in the past few years is Scott Creaseys minimalistic metaphysical mentalism. Written by an actual working mentalist with some fantastic practical effects.
Once upon a time people would maybe release one or two books in a lifetime, usually after lifetime performing the material. These days with the ease of self publishing and e-books its possible to churn out a couple of books a year. Some people are making a career out of selling this material to the community and despite the hype you'll often find nothing original or practical due to the simple fact the material is not audience tested. Fraser Parker seems to be particularly guilty of this, every book is an update of the previous book.
Ok, apologies for the rant. I guess my point is that very little has been released in recent years that will be added to the list of classics.
