First Spoilers Revealed From Kuromi’s Cryptid Carnival

New York Comic Con is in full swing, with today’s main event being the eBay Live stream scheduled for 1:30PM EST. This livestream will showcase and sell the eBay exclusive Collector Set for MetaZoo’s Kuromi’s Cryptid Carnival set releasing at the end of October. I have not seen full details on what is included in the Collector Set, but it appears to include at least two booster boxes and three exclusive promos, and likely other goodies. Some attendees (thanks in particular to Mooty in the MetaZoo Discord server for posting these images) at Comic Con noticed there were Page images on display at eBay’s booth, and it appears they are spoilers from the Kuromi’s Cryptid Carnival set given they have a set number out of 103 rather than the promo logo MetaZoo uses. My hope is that there will be packs in hand for the livestream and we will get to see lots more Pages from the set, but for now, lets take a look at these three spoilers:

Lechuza was printed in the UFO set, and this is the first time we have a Chibi version. As far as my memory serves, this is the first Page in MetaZoo’s history with a DISCARD effect, and this could be a useful one, no doubt. This Discard effect allows you to pay two Neutral Aura to nullify target resolving Artifact, Potion or Spell. To fulfill this effect, you need to hoot, and have a Beastie Chibi or Witch under your control. Chibi Lechuza also has an ARENA effect that allows any Lechuza to Enter the Arena Awakened and gives it the Invisible Trait.

I haven’t had a chance to review all the differences between the various Kuromi promos that have been revealed so far at New York Comic Con, but this set version from Kuromi’s Cryptid Carnival appears to be functionally unique, mainly due to its Power. It has a 4th Wall that gives the Page Fleet if it is October, and then a Power that lets you lose 3 Kuromi Note Counters to Bookmark 1. The Attack effect also gives you 1 Kuromi Note Counter if you do not currently have any. There are other Kuromi Pages that increase these counters and interact with them, so it will be interesting to see if this becomes a competitive mechanic going forward.

Adorable-O-Lantern has a “tutor” effect that lets you search your Spellbook for a Beastie, but specifically a Bronze rarity one from the Cryptid Nation Block. The Block refers to any set from Cryptid Nation all the way to next year’s War release, so this Artifact can target a whole heck of a lot of Beasties. It will take some time to determine if this Page will see play competitively, but searching mechanics are always useful and I’m sure it will find its niche in some Spellbooks.
