Gracie Corner Mascot Scholarship: Turning a Passion into a Dream

By admin

The Gracie Corner Mascot, a beloved symbol of our community, is now up for grabs. The mascot, a vibrant and energetic character, has been an integral part of our local events and activities for many years. However, due to recent budget cuts and the need for new branding, the mascot is being retired. The decision to give away the mascot has sparked excitement and curiosity among the residents of Gracie Corner, as many express interest in becoming the new face of our community. Local businesses, organizations, and individuals have been invited to submit their proposals for taking over the role. These proposals must outline how they plan to incorporate the mascot into their own events and promote the spirit of Gracie Corner.

What the Coaches are Saying.
Aug 28, 2023

“Oswego State's Division I ACHA hockey program gives students the opportunity to compete against top competition in a nationally recognized college hockey league. In addition, the team offers an excellent alternative to the heavy demands of an NCAA hockey program. Playing on the Lakers ACHA team allows student-athletes to focus on academics and future building, while playing a 30-game schedule and practicing two to three times a week. The team consists of approximately 26-28 high school and junior players from across North America and the rest of the world. Many are recruited, but a portion of the roster is made up of walk-on athletes who are selected in a tryout that takes place early in the Fall semester. Funding for team equipment, travel, and game costs is covered by the Oswego State Student Association, player dues, and fundraising. The Lakers are proud to say that their player dues are amongst the lowest in all of the ACHA. The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) was founded in 1991 and has built to over 430 teams across three divisions in both men's and women's competition. A national championship is held in each division every year for qualifying teams. Oswego State competes in the highest level of the ACHA; Men's Division I. The team practices and plays most games out in the state of the art Marano Campus Center, one of the more pristine ACHA rinks in the country.”
