By admin

Shawn Kemp, also known as "Reign Man" or "Shawh Kemp" is a former professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1989 to 2003. Kemp was known for his athleticism and powerful dunks, earning him a spot among the league's top players during his prime. He was born on November 26, 1969, in Elkhart, Indiana. Kemp attended Concord High School, where he excelled in basketball and caught the attention of college recruiters. He later decided to forego college and enter the NBA draft directly.

"This is a great opportunity for me," said Kemp. "I've always felt that I have had a great relationship with Doc and look forward to playing with the guys."

Entering his 14th NBA season, the 33-year-old Kemp, who broke into the league in 1989 with Seattle, inked a seven-year, 107-million US deal in 1997 before he was traded from the SuperSonics to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Shawn Kemp signs with Magic

The Orlando Magic signed troubled forward Shawn Kemp on Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not released.

"Under the circumstances, and in addressing some of our needs, this is an opportunity for both the Magic and Shawn," said Orlando general manager John Gabriel. "We look forward to his return to the Eastern Conference.

"We feel we have a solid coaching staff, organization and the right leadership in place to make this a win-win situation."

The Portland Trail Blazers restructured Kemp's contract back on August 20 and Kemp reportedly agreed to forfeit more than $25 million US of the $46.5 million US left on his contract with the Blazers and the team waived him.

Portland could wind up saving at least $40 million US in NBA luxury taxes, thanks to the move.

"This is a great opportunity for me," said Kemp. "I've always felt that I have had a great relationship with Doc and look forward to playing with the guys."

In the past few years though, Kemp has battled substance abuse problems and entered a drug rehabilitation centre for cocaine use in April of 2001 towards the end of his first year with Portland.

He returned last season, but was suspended for five games in February for failing to comply with his aftercare program.

"I know the history here, but I'm a believer in giving people opportunities," said Magic head coach Doc Rivers. "Shawn is a great passer, a heck of a rebounder and can still shoot.

"Is he a savior? No, but he has a chance at addressing some of our needs. I am willing to take that chance."

In his career, the six-time all-star has averaged 15.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

However, in the last two season he has averaged just 6.3 points and 3.8 boards per game.

Their partnership led the team to several successful seasons, including a trip to the NBA Finals in 1996 where they faced the Chicago Bulls. Kemp showcased his skills and athleticism, earning him six straight All-Star selections from 1993 to 1998. Standing at 6 feet 10 inches tall and weighing over 230 pounds, Kemp was an imposing figure on the court. He was known for his high-flying dunks and powerful finishes, often posterizing opponents with his acrobatics. His combination of strength, speed, and agility made him a difficult player to guard. Off the court, Kemp faced some personal challenges, including struggles with weight gain and legal issues. These issues affected his performance on the court, and his career eventually declined as he bounced around different teams during his later years. Despite the ups and downs in his career, Shawn Kemp left a lasting impact on the NBA. He is remembered for his electrifying dunks, dominant performances, and contributions to the success of the Seattle SuperSonics. Kemp's style of play and explosive athleticism continue to inspire basketball players and fans alike..
