The captivating magic of spirituals lies in their ability to transcend time and space, and connect people on a spiritual and emotional level. Originating from African American slaves, these songs have a long and rich history rooted in the experiences of racism, oppression, and hope. Despite the bleak circumstances in which they were created, spirituals serve as a testament to the resilience and strength of the human spirit. One of the defining characteristics of spirituals is their ability to convey deep emotions and feelings. From the sorrow and pain of slavery to the hope and eventual freedom, these songs capture the essence of the human experience with raw honesty. The lyrics are often simple yet powerful, evoking a sense of empathy and understanding.

As I drove away from the store my mind was still on the sunset. I wanted to watch it until there were not more amazing colours. However, it was getting dark fast and dinner needs to be cooked. Now that brought me back to earth so to speak. Anway, a few minutes along the parking lot, I jumped out of my car and took some more shots of the dying sunset.

Lorca, who was assassinated for being a gay Socialist in the lead-up to the Spanish Civil War, was often praised for being a male writer who presented complex portraits of women something also common in the work of one of his creative offspring, openly gay Spanish film-maker Pedro Almodóvar. Several of the women are Yerma s friends and confidantes, but it isn t always clear whether or not they re playing the same characters when they re subsumed into the group, which seems to be the point They re both inside and outside of the very goings-on they can t stop talking about.

The Legend of Leelanau is the captivating story retold by Kathy-jo Wargin, with lovely illustrations by Gijsbert van Frankenhuyzen. This story is based on Leelanau County, in Michigan! I have never been, but I’ll have to put it on my list!

I liked how the pictures added a whimsical touch to the story. Plus, the author really knew how to convey emotions in her words. Overall, reading the book was a compelling experience, all of the words and pictures so wonderfully powerful.

This book is great for Michigan residents who want to learn more about their state. Sleeping Bear Press, the publisher, publishes many stories about legends in the Mitten State.

Young kids will enjoy the fairytale-like story as well.
