Assassin's Creed: Witch Hunt turns series into full-blown horror

The Assassin's Creed series has had some pretty scary moments over the last 15 years, but it's never really been known for its focus on horror. That's all about to change.

It's a really interesting time to be an Assassin's Creed fans, with a bunch of confirmed projects that should see us through the next decade at least. There's an argument to be made that knowing about all of these games so far ahead of time kind of spoils the surprise, but that's a debate for another day.

Take a look at Assassin's Creed Jade in action below!

As I'm sure you know, Ubisoft has decided it's time to really triple down on the popular franchise. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is mere weeks away, and takes us back to the series' stealth roots. Soon after that there's an RPG set in Ancient China, then a hugely anticipated Assassin’s Creed set in Japan. But for my money, the most interesting new project is Assassin's Creed Hexe, a game all about witch trials.

Very little is known about Assassin's Creed Hexe at this time, save for the fact it will almost certainly feature a female protagonist. But if you were wondering what a full-on horror Assassin's Creed game might look like in the meantime, YouTuber Enfant Terrible has delivered.

This fan-made teaser for Assassin's Creed: Witch Hunt sees an Assassin wandering through the remains of a burned village, tasked with uncovering an ancient tomb. If I have but one complaint about this otherwise excellent, atmospheric trailer, it's that the protagonist is a dude.

Still, you can see the trailer for yourself below. It's amazing work.

I'm sure Ubisoft isn't reading this, but if Assassin's Creed Hexe tries to give us a game about witch trials and the persecution of thousands of innocent females and doesn't give us the option to play as a woman? Well, that would be a horrible mistake.

They have mastered the darkest spells and rituals, harnessing the power of the elements to their advantage. Their ability to control the forces of nature is awe-inspiring and terrifying. They understand that the fate of their world hangs in the balance. They must rise to the challenge and put an end to the reign of terror. It will not be an easy battle. The final witch assassin is a formidable opponent, utterly relentless in their pursuit of power. But the warriors are driven by a sense of justice and a desire for peace. They will stop at nothing to bring the final witch assassin to justice. As the final confrontation draws near, tensions rise and the stakes become even higher. The fate of the world rests on the outcome of this battle. The final witch assassin must be defeated, or darkness will consume everything. Ultimately, the battle between the final witch assassin and the brave warriors will determine the future of their world. Each side is prepared to give everything they have to claim victory. Lives will be lost, sacrifices will be made, and destinies will be fulfilled. In the end, it is not just a battle of power, but also a battle of wills. The final witch assassin represents the embodiment of evil, while the warriors symbolize hope and resilience. The outcome will define the destiny of their world and determine if light can triumph over darkness. The final witch assassin may be formidable, but they are not invincible. With unity, strength, and a little bit of magic, the warriors will do everything in their power to bring an end to the reign of terror. The final witch assassin will be defeated, and the world will be free once again..
