"The Witch" ist wohl für jeden, der diesen Song das erste Mal hört, eine schräge Erfahrung, weshalb ich auf dieses Album schon immer gespannt war. Nach meinen durchweg höchstens mittelmäßigen Erfahrungen mit den 1960er-Rattles und ihrem technisch soliden, aber derivativen und banalen Sound hatten sich jedoch arge Zweifel eingestellt -- war dieser Song vielleicht nur, wie so oft, das gefundene Korn des blinden Huhns?
Where Is the Friend etwa ist mit hektischem 7 8-Rhythmus, dissonanten Akkorden und einem klassischen Klavier-Interludium schon fast avantgardistisch, aber trotzdem eingängig. We re told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc.

The Rattles
Ursprünglich eine Single B-Seite. In einer leicht veränderten Fassung mit Edna Bejarano als Sängerin wurde das Stück im Frühjahr 1970 in den USA als Single A-Seite noch einmal veröffentlicht und entwickelte sich im Spätsommer/Herbst 1970 zum internationalen Tophit. Msuikalisch lag "The Witch" voll auf der Höhe der zeit. Besonders die Wah-Wah-Gitarre bleibt nachhaltig in Erinnerung.

Unglaublich abgefahrener Titel auch wenn der Text nicht besonders gelungen ist. Aber die Sound-Effekte waren für die damalige Zeit erste Sahne.

Sehr guter progressiver Song aus 1970. Gut hörbar und einige Soundeffekte drin, die für die damalige Zeit ziemlich voraus waren. Aufgerundete 6* Da vermiest auch der etwas miese Gesang nichts
05.12.2007 22:591970 ein Spitzenstück aus einer Reihe von Erfolgen der deutschen Band "The Rattles". Allerdings handelt es sich bei der o.a. Single um die fetzige 70er-Neuaufnahme ihres eigenen Stücks "The Witch" aus dem Jahre 1965. In der erfolgreichen Neufassung von 1970 ist Edna Bejarano die Sängerin, während auf der Urfassung noch Achim Reichel etwas beatlesmäßig sang. In der Besetzung mit Edna kamen noch zwei weitere Singles 1971 zustande, danach war Ende. Schade.

eine sehr witzig und ulkig gestaltete (Psychedelic-)Rockscheibe - hiermit im November 1970 3 Wochen auf #8 in UK gestanden - knappe 5*.
Das hat man ja damals noch als recht hart bezeichnet hab ich gehört, Track ist auch gut und hat schon etwas von heutigen Punkrock Tracks obwohl dieser kein Punkrock ist.
