What does "possession" mean in the context of Swift Ready?

I'm running a D20 Modern game in which my players have access to D&D spells. This situation though could easily come up in a standard D&D game. One of my players is playing a Duskblade and has access to the Swift Ready spell. He recently used the spell to steal the Hope Diamond by casting Swift Ready on the Hope Diamond and then walking out of the building and calling it to him. I let it happen because it would be more fun that way, but it got me wondering RAW is this allowed? The Swift Ready spell states that the object in question "cannot be in the possession of any other creature". Clearly if a creature is holding the object they are in possession of it, but with something under a glass casing this is a little less clear. RAW can the Swift Ready spell be used to steal items from a display? Why or why not?

\$\begingroup\$ To be clear, he was able to touch the diamond-as-equipment through the casing for a minute's cast? Or were you house-ruling the casting time and touch requirements? \$\endgroup\$

\$\begingroup\$ We did not house rule the time requirements, but I wasn't aware of a touch requirement. The spell text says "You must have line of sight to the equipment" so I assumed there was none. EDIT: Its not too hard to stare at the Hope Diamond for a minute. \$\endgroup\$

Reviews for "The Journey of a Magic Hat: From Creation to Obsession"

1. Emily - 2/5 - I was really excited to read "Your magic hat is in our possession" based on the intriguing title and captivating cover art. However, I was ultimately disappointed by the execution of the story. The plot felt disjointed and confusing, jumping between different timelines and characters without much explanation or connection. Additionally, the writing style was choppy and lacked depth, making it difficult for me to fully immerse myself in the world the author was trying to create. Overall, I found the book to be underwhelming and would not recommend it.
2. James - 1/5 - I found "Your magic hat is in our possession" to be a complete waste of time. The characters were one-dimensional and lacked any development, making it impossible for me to care about what happened to them. The dialogue was stilted and unnatural, and the pacing was incredibly slow. I struggled to finish the book as it felt like nothing was really happening throughout the entire story. It lacked any sense of excitement or intrigue, and the resolution felt rushed and unsatisfying. I regretted picking up this book and would advise others to steer clear of it.
3. Sarah - 2/5 - While "Your magic hat is in our possession" started off promising, it quickly went downhill for me. The premise of the story had potential, but the execution fell flat. The writing style was overly descriptive and repetitive, bogging down the narrative and making it feel tedious to read. The plot lacked direction and meandered aimlessly, leaving me feeling disconnected from the story. Additionally, the characters were unlikeable and lacked depth, making it difficult for me to invest in their journey. Overall, I found this book to be a disappointment and would not recommend it to others.
