Brenneke Black Magic 3" heavy magnum slugs in stock!

I know MidwayUSA isn't everyone's favorite retailer, but the Black Magic slugs have proven to be hard to come by. They ain't cheap, either, at $2.60 per shell. But $2.60 is pocket change if you're standing nose-to-nose with a bear.

I`m not man enough these days to be firing 3" magnums but Brenneke does make some fine slugs, I get `em for my .410 when I can find them.

They're 1-3/8 oz slugs moving at 1500 FPS. I'm guessing they're made of harder lead, to boot.

And at $2.60 per shell, it's a very pertinent question. The short answer is that they're not better than 1oz slugs in most scenarios. In fact, they're worse in all but a select few circumstances.

Two reasons I prefer them while in bear country:

1) Harder lead projectile vs standard foster slugs. It deforms less and doesn't fragment, which means it'll penetrate deeper thru bear fur, fat, muscle and bone.

2) External ballistics are better. It's a faster and heavier hunk 'o lead.

Brenneke Black Magic:
602 grains (1 3/8oz)
Muzzle Velocity 1,502 feet/s
3,014 ft/lb of energy at the muzzle

Federal Premium 1oz slug:
438 grains
Muzzle Velocity 1,300 feet/s
1,642 ft/lb of energy at the muzzle

The compromises (and there's always a compromise)
It's a lot more expensive per shell
It kicks like a mule
It's a 3" shell, so mag tube capacity is reduced.
Heavier/faster/harder slug means over penetration is a serious concern in urban scenarios.

Reviews for "Choosing the Right Slug: Why Brenneke Black Magic Magnum Hunting Slugs Should Be Your Go-To"

1. John Smith - 2/5: I recently purchased the Brenneke Black Magic Magnum Hunting Slugs for my hunting trip, but they failed to deliver the performance I was hoping for. The slugs did not have consistent accuracy, and I found myself having to readjust my aim after each shot. Additionally, the recoil was much higher than other brands I have used before, making it uncomfortable to shoot multiple rounds in quick succession. Overall, I was disappointed with the performance of these slugs and will be looking for a different brand for my future hunting trips.
2. Emily Johnson - 1/5: I was really excited to try the Brenneke Black Magic Magnum Hunting Slugs, but unfortunately, they were a complete letdown. The slugs consistently failed to penetrate deep enough into the target, resulting in poor stopping power. Moreover, the accuracy of these slugs was extremely inconsistent, with many shots veering off course. I also encountered issues with the primer not igniting properly on multiple occasions. Due to these shortcomings, I do not recommend the Brenneke Black Magic Magnum Hunting Slugs for anyone looking for reliable and high-performance ammunition.
3. David Thompson - 2/5: I have been using different slugs for hunting, and unfortunately, the Brenneke Black Magic Magnum Hunting Slugs did not live up to my expectations. The accuracy was simply not up to par, with inconsistent groupings at various distances. The slugs also lacked stopping power, often failing to bring down the game efficiently. Moreover, the recoil was quite intense, making it unpleasant to shoot with these slugs for an extended period. Overall, I was disappointed with the performance of the Brenneke Black Magic Magnum Hunting Slugs and will be switching back to my previous brand for future hunts.
4. Samantha Davis - 2/5: I have used the Brenneke Black Magic Magnum Hunting Slugs for a few hunting trips and found them to be lacking in several aspects. Firstly, the accuracy was subpar compared to other slugs I have used, resulting in missed shots and wasted opportunities. Secondly, I experienced issues with consistency, with some rounds having misfires or not performing up to the expected standards. Lastly, the recoil was notably stronger than other slugs, which made it difficult to maintain good control during rapid follow-up shots. I would not recommend the Brenneke Black Magic Magnum Hunting Slugs for serious hunters looking for reliable and consistent performance.
