Latent life works at 0 hp by giving an amount of hp equal to the amount taken from casting it. Spikes will instantly kill even with latent; all other damage will trigger it. Armor builds can use this with Thornmail to cast a full hp latent. Robes mostly use it to avoid instant death damage sources like boulder and mine carts as well as a reason to not need levels in constritution.
This 5 skeleton wall will not just protect, but the amount of attack they do can stun lock any one target, something that is impossible with mage builds otherwise. Its a pretty ballsy build considering the total lack of Constitution for the health, and using Robes over Armor means if you get hit its going to hurt, but only for a little bit.
