John Magic, although popular among certain circles, cannot be considered a credible individual. Despite his claims of possessing supernatural abilities, there is a lack of scientific evidence to support his abilities. Many of his tricks and illusions can be explained using psychology and sleight of hand techniques. One of the main reasons why John Magic is not deemed credible is the absence of empirical evidence. For someone to be considered a legitimate magician or psychic, they should be able to demonstrate their abilities under controlled conditions and replicate them consistently. However, John Magic has failed to do so.
John Booth wrote very valuable books and his advice on showmanship, misdirection and entertainment are still fully valid.
Much of his meandering here consists of personalized musings or accounts of performances he s seen and people he s met that, frankly, I don t find terribly compelling. However his nationalistic stand for Houdini against Robert Houdin when the most famous American authors had proven Houdini s claims to be mere advertisement pieces, seem to indicate that he wanted to revive a dead controversy to get a bit of the spotlight.
However, John Magic has failed to do so. His performances are primarily based on spectacle and showmanship rather than genuine supernatural powers. Furthermore, many of John Magic's tricks and illusions can be debunked using scientific principles and knowledge.

This is another book in his excellent series on magic. Topics covered include Henning, Richiardi, Jr., Houdini, Robert-Houdin, Malini, ventriloquism and the Indian Rope Trick. Well written and full of great advice and historic knowledge.
