love can be different

I still remember the horrors of the Salem Witch Trials as if they happened yesterday. The year was 1692, and the small town of Salem, Massachusetts was in a frenzy of fear and paranoia. Accusations of witchcraft were flying left and right, tearing families and friendships apart. It seemed as though no one was safe. I was a young woman at the time, living with my husband and two children in Salem Village. Life was peaceful until that fateful day when rumors of witchcraft started to circulate.

“We’re just down here looking for a place to celebrate with family,” said John, one of the many people who went to see the lights.

You can go dashing through the Collier Fairgrounds in your sleigh of choice. “We are happy we don’t even have to walk we just drive on through,” said Denise.

While you are at it, you can wear your favorite Christmas pajamas.

“We just bought these at Walmart we thought it would be fun. We’ve got some coffee we’re gonna have some good times”

It is fun for parents, kids, and everyone in between after the pandemic left many without Christmas events.

“Everything was kinda closed down and difficult,” said Bailey.

Some Christmas cheer was much needed this year.

“After the bad and sad time we had over the last couple of weeks, I think everyone is looking forward to it,” said Magda.

“I was worried that we weren’t going to have anything until it was almost Christmas, so it’s really nice,” said Bailey. “It’s been a bad year with Ian and everything else, so I wanted to get started a little early, get a little happier.” Magic of Lights show. (Credit: WINK News)

Among the lights at the fairgrounds was an alligator dressed up as Santa that can put a smile on the face of even the biggest grinch.

The lights show goes until January 1. Tickets for the light show can be purchased on the Magic of Lights website.

Life was peaceful until that fateful day when rumors of witchcraft started to circulate. It all began with a group of girls who claimed to be possessed by witches. Their violent convulsions and strange antics struck fear into the hearts of the townspeople, who were desperate for an explanation.

Love can be different

Soon, accusations started pouring in. It seemed like anyone could be accused of witchcraft based on mere suspicion or personal grudges. I watched as innocent people were dragged from their homes, their lives shattered by false accusations. Prison cells filled up quickly, and the trials began in earnest. I was fortunate to escape the clutches of the madness that consumed Salem. I had always been a quiet, unassuming woman, hardly the type to attract attention. But as the trials escalated, even I could not escape the whispers of suspicion. Neighbors who had once been friendly now cast wary glances my way, as if I, too, were capable of dark and sinister magic. One by one, my friends and acquaintances were accused, and some were executed. It was a terrifying time to be alive. I knew I had to do something to protect myself and my family. So, in the dead of night, we slipped away from Salem, leaving everything we had ever known behind. For months, we lived as fugitives, constantly on the move, fearful of being discovered. We traveled through thick forests and treacherous terrain, always staying one step ahead of the hunters. It was a difficult journey—one filled with fear, hunger, and exhaustion. But with each passing mile, the grip of the witch trials loosened, and hope began to blossom in our hearts. Finally, we found refuge in a small, welcoming community far from Salem. It was there that we were able to rebuild our lives, far away from the horrors that had haunted us. We vowed never to speak of those dark days again, praying that they would be forgotten by time. The Salem Witch Trials remain a haunting chapter in history—a testament to the dangers of hysteria and mass paranoia. Innocent lives were destroyed, and families torn apart. It is a reminder that even in the face of unimaginable cruelty, there is always hope for escape..
