Review: The Witch Boy

On the surface, Witch Boy is a fantasy story about a reclusive family who practice magic. But below the surface, it’s a story of gender roles. Whether or not readers will dig that deep is entirely up to them. Whether or not they discuss it, again, is up to them. But young readers will have an exciting adventure story to enjoy. When a shapeshifting ceremony goes awry, and Aster’s cousin goes missing, Aster uses some of the witchcraft he’s picked up on to help find him. While his cousin is missing, Aster goes out walking and befriends Charlie, a young girl from a nonmagical family who has broken her leg. Aster feels comfortable with Charlie and is able to share his deepest thoughts and secrets with her, including his magical gifts. But when the demon monster reaches out to Aster, he will have to show his family that his true desire is witchcraft. Will they come to terms?

While the storytelling feels a bit rushed in the end, overall this is a really sweet and exciting story. The rich artwork and lush colors lay the groundwork for an eerie and magical setting. Readers will feel Aster’s discomfort and his out-of-sorts feeling with his drive to find a place he fits in. The strong part of this story is Charlie and her friendship with Aster. This is a solid choice for reading. Filed under: Graphic Novels, Reviews

Reviews for "Unlock the Mystical Secrets of Moon Glow Magic with Huda Beauty's Collection"

1. Samantha - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the Moon Glow Magic palette from Huda Beauty. The pigmentation of the eyeshadows was very poor, and I had to apply multiple layers to get any color to show up on my lids. The glitter shades were especially disappointing as they barely showed up and had a lot of fallout. The packaging was nice, but that's about the only positive thing I can say about this palette. Overall, I would not recommend it.
2. Jessica - 1 star - I had high hopes for the Moon Glow Magic palette, but unfortunately, it was a total letdown. The shades in the palette looked amazing in the pan, but when I applied them, they were so sheer and lacked any intensity. The matte shades were patchy and didn't blend well, and the shimmer shades had a chunky texture. The fallout was also terrible, even with the use of an eyeshadow primer. I expected better quality from Huda Beauty, and this palette certainly did not meet my expectations.
3. Emily - 2 stars - The Moon Glow Magic palette was a miss for me. The colors in the palette looked stunning, but the pigmentation was not there. I had to constantly layer the eyeshadows to get any intensity, and even then, they didn't show up as vibrant as I had hoped. The formula was also quite powdery, and the matte shades were difficult to blend. The packaging was beautiful, but that's about the only positive thing I can say about this palette. Overall, I was left feeling underwhelmed and would not repurchase or recommend it.
4. Alex - 2 stars - I was really excited to try the Moon Glow Magic palette, but it fell short of my expectations. The colors looked stunning in the pan, but they didn't translate well onto the eyes. The pigmentation was lacking, and the shades appeared dull and muted on my skin. The texture of the eyeshadows was also quite powdery, and fallout was a major issue. The shimmers did not have much sparkle or shine, and the mattes were difficult to blend. Overall, I was disappointed with this palette and wouldn't recommend it to others.
