Bild: zvgDie Brugger Heavy-Metal-Band Burning Witches sorgt international für Furore. Am Freitag, 28. Mai, erscheint das neue, mittlerweile vierte Album «The Witch of the North». Dieses sei epischer, kompakter als die Vorgänger, sagt Gitarristin und Bandgründerin Romana Kalkuhl. «Ich denke, es ist unser bisher bestes Werk», fügt sie gut gelaunt an. «Die Fans dürfen sich freuen.» Die ersten Reaktionen jedenfalls, stellt sie zufrieden fest, seien einfach überwältigend. «Die Leute mögen offenbar, was wir machen.»
Romana Kalkuhl hat derzeit ziemlich viel um die Ohren. Über 100 Interviewtermine – die Anfragen kommen aus dem In- und Ausland – stehen an. Sie sei täglich mit ihren Bandkolleginnen zusammen: Sängerin Laura Guldemond, Gitarristin Larissa Ernst, Bassistin Jeanine Grob sowie Schlagzeugerin Lala Frischknecht. Die Stimmung sei sehr gut, sagt Romana Kalkuhl. «Wir geniessen diese Zeit.»

Geplant sind voraussichtlich ab Herbst eine oder zwei Tourneen. «Wir warten allerdings wie alle anderen Künstler, bis es losgehen kann.»

Gegründet wurde Burning Witches im 2015 von Gitarristin Romana Kalkuhl aus Brugg, die eine rein weibliche Metal-Band ins Leben rufen wollte. Stark geprägt wurde die Musikerin vom Heavy Metal der Achtzigerjahre. 2017 erschien das Debütalbum, das – weltweit – für Aufsehen sorgte. Im Sommer 2019 spielte die Band auf den ganz grossen Festivals, stand unter anderem auf der Bühne des legendären Wacken Open Air.
