Witch Trials in the Upper Peninsula: A Forgotten Chapter of Michigan's History

Once in a small town in Michigan, there was a legend of a witch that haunted the streets. The story went that she was an old woman who practiced dark magic and had the ability to cast spells on anyone who crossed her path. The townspeople were afraid of her and would stay away from her house at all costs. It was said that the witch lived in a small, decrepit cottage at the edge of town. The house had a spooky appearance, with boarded-up windows and overgrown vines creeping up the walls. Nobody had seen the witch emerge from her house in years, but her presence was felt by all.

“I’m a 100% believer of it, “Wiley said. “I know what I saw. I didn’t drive that way for the longest time because I was afraid I was going to see her again.”

The cops thought they were going to find a bunch of teenagers partying in the cemetery, not a gang of people dressed in dorky matching black t-shirts with our group logo on them. People have claimed to see her wandering along Honey Creek Road, around the area of Honey Creek and Conservation NE near Seidman Park, and also along Egypt Valley Ave.

Nobody had seen the witch emerge from her house in years, but her presence was felt by all. People claimed to have heard strange sounds coming from inside, like cackling laughter or eerie whispers in the wind. The legend of the witch Michigan grew with time, and soon it became a popular topic of conversation amongst the townspeople.

Ada Witch at Findlay Cemetery - Real Ada Haunted Place

The Findlay Cemetery in Ada is rumored to be haunted by a woman who was an adulterer. She was followed by her husband as she went to meet her lover and stories say her husband watched for proof of the cheating before he killed his wife. After killing his wide, the husband fought the lover until they both had fallen. The woman's ghost has been spotted in Seidman Park, where the murder supposedly occurred, Honey Creek Road, where her body was found, and Findlay Cemetery, where she was buried. No police reports of the incident were ever found but her ghost is referred to as a witch who creates eerie mists. Other reports include shrieks, weeping, shoulder tapping and footsteps heard in the area.

Her husband finally got suspicious and stayed awake one night in order to catch her in the act…and he did. One night, he was lying in bed pretending to fall asleep, waiting for his wife to sneak out. When she did, he followed her and saw the two lovers embrace. This drove hubby crazy and he attacked the two, first killing his wife and then set upon the man. After an extremely gruesome battle between husband and lover, they both wound up dying from their extensive wounds. This all took place in the woods near the cemetery.

Some believed that she had supernatural powers, while others dismissed her existence as a mere myth. Nevertheless, the fear of the witch became deeply ingrained in the minds of the townspeople, and they would warn their children to stay away from her house. But there was an adventurous young girl named Lily who was curious about the witch. She had heard all the stories and couldn't resist the allure of uncovering the truth. One night, she mustered up the courage and decided to explore the witch's cottage. As Lily approached the house, her heart raced with anticipation. The creaking door sent shivers down her spine as she stepped inside. To her surprise, the house was filled with dusty old books, bubbling cauldrons, and mysterious artifacts. It seemed more like a place of magic, rather than a den of evil. Suddenly, a voice echoed through the room, startling Lily. It was a frail, old voice that asked her why she had ventured into her home. Turning around, Lily saw the witch standing there, wearing a tattered black robe. Rather than feeling frightened, Lily felt a strange sense of compassion for the old woman. The witch introduced herself as Isabella and explained that she was just an ordinary woman who had a deep love for magic. She told Lily that the town's fear had isolated her, and she had no intentions of causing harm to anyone. Isabella had spent her life studying magic and had become a wise and knowledgeable witch. As Lily got to know Isabella, she realized that the witch Michigan was not what everyone had portrayed her to be. Isabella was a kind-hearted woman who used her magic to help others. She had never cast a spell on anyone without their consent and had actually cured several townspeople of ailments with her potions. Word of Lily's encounter with the witch spread throughout the town, and gradually, people's perceptions began to change. They saw Isabella not as a wicked witch but as a misunderstood, wise woman. The once fearful townspeople started seeking her out for advice, and she became a respected figure in the community. From that day on, the legend of the witch Michigan transformed into a tale of compassion and understanding. The town learned that appearances can be deceiving, and it taught them not to judge others based on rumors or stereotypes. Isabella's cottage became a place of magical wisdom, and people from far and wide would visit her seeking guidance. The story of the witch Michigan serves as a reminder that everyone deserves a chance to be understood. It highlights the importance of looking beyond superficial judgments and getting to know someone before making assumptions.
