Magic Milk Island Art is a unique art technique that combines elements of science and creativity. To create magic milk art, you will need a shallow dish, whole milk, liquid food coloring, dish soap, and cotton swabs. Fill the shallow dish with enough whole milk to cover the bottom. With collaborator Mark Whitelaw, she created A Family Outing, a performance piece in which she deconstructed her own childhood and coming out, including appearing nude on stage alongside both her parents. I m currently finishing my chapter on music and for my taste this is a great example of use of traditional music A Shot in the Dark by Henry Mancini in a very contemporary way--which I suppose raises the question of whether music from the 60s is contemporary, which I leave to you to debate.

It's best to use multiple colors to create a vibrant effect. Once the food coloring is added, take a cotton swab and dip it in dish soap. Gently touch the surface of the milk with the cotton swab, and the magic begins! The dish soap reacts with the fat in the milk, causing the colors to swirl and mix together, creating unique patterns and designs.

Ursula Martinez is the performer who triggered the book "The Happy Stripper" by Jacki Willson, which I'm writing a report on--but you probably won't see it till after my manuscript is in to my adorable editor.

I'm currently finishing my chapter on music and for my taste this is a great example of use of traditional music ("A Shot in the Dark" by Henry Mancini) in a very contemporary way--which I suppose raises the question of whether music from the 60s is contemporary, which I leave to you to debate. I think this routine deserves the attention it has gotten, and I really love it.

I read a detailed analysis of this performance art piece which attributed all kinds of complicated intentions to her and concluded that the final reveal was meant to be menstruation. Maybe, but I think it works however you read it.

So what do you think of the book "The Happy Stripper?" I found it to be a hard read; it's taking me over 6 months to read that book and I have yet to finish it.

Martinez is currently appearing in La Clique in London and I was really delighted to see this act performed live. She has the most amazing comic timing and is a charismatic performer.

The most interesting thing to note was the reactions of some audience members, you could see who was appreciating the comedy that happened to incorporate the strip foremost, who was thinking 'I love to have the balls to get up and do that!' and the guys who were totally conflicted thinking 'now if I show any appreciation of this, will my wife think I'm ogling the stripper or into it for the comedy?'.

Anyway, great fun :).

They make new friends in class and build new audiences at student showcases -- their fresh energy is just what burlesque needs to stay exciting and relevant. Here are a few tips to get you started. There are many, many ways to produce burlesque shows, so if you read this and disagree with it, at least it will have given you an idea of what you don't want to do! If you have questions about a particular type of show, please ask in the comments. Also feel free to share your experiences as a producer, performer, or venue if you have different expectations or preferences than I'm describing here. Before you even start producing, visualize and manifest your show. Make a poster for it, even if it's just a sketch on a pad. Hello everyone! You can watch/listen to the Business of Burlesque presentation here. This was a presentation about how new burlesque performers can begin to get gigs. The slide show begins a couple of minutes in. The question and answer section begins at about 33 minutes in. Note that there are dozens of articles on the art and business of burlesque on this blog, so do go to the search box in the upper right hand corner of the main page and see if the topic that interests you is discussed here. There is also a chapter on professional etiquette in The Burlesque Handbook. If after listening to all 55 minutes you have suggestions, questions, regional-specific differences, disagreements, or corrections, drop it in the comments here or on youtube! Students will see it! Their third collaboration is OAP (Old Age Pensioner), which opened at The Barbican in October 2006.
