There once was a witch who possessed a peculiar clock. This clock, known as the Mercurial Clock, had the ability to manipulate time. The witch, whose name was Morgana, was a master of witchcraft and had spent years studying the art of time manipulation. She had stumbled upon the Mercurial Clock during her travels and had instantly recognized its power. The Mercurial Clock had a face made of a rare silver metal, with intricate engravings that seemed to shift and change with every passing minute. The hands of the clock were made of pure mercury, giving it an ethereal glow.
“By the 1690s, God-fearing Puritans represented a smaller proportion of the population of New England than at any point in the 17th century,” says Kathleen M. Brown, a professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania and author of Good Wives, Nasty Wenches and Anxious Patriarchs: Gender, Race, and Power in Colonial Virginia. “Even though percentage-wise, the Puritan influence was weaker than it had been earlier in the century, it was still leaving a big imprint on society.”
They were sick for about a month before their parents brought in a doctor, who concluded that it looked like witchcraft, says Rachel Christ-Doane, the director of education at the Salem Witch Museum. The infamous Salem witch trials began during the spring of 1692, after a group of young girls in Salem Village, Massachusetts, claimed to be possessed by the devil and accused several local women of witchcraft.
The hands of the clock were made of pure mercury, giving it an ethereal glow. It was said that when the clock struck midnight, time itself would bend to the witch's will. Morgana had always been fascinated by the concept of time.

Featured review Good Look at the Evils Done by the So-Called "Good"In Search of History: Salem Witch Trials (1998)
This episode of The History Channel's "In Search of History" takes a look at the Salem Witch Trials, which happened during 1692 and resulted in countless deaths, probably of innocent people. The documentary starts off dealing with the history of witchcraft, how it was originally accepted by Christians as they simply turned their back but then we get to cases where the Roman Catholic church decided it would be best to put witches to death. Several historians are interviewed about how people decided who was witches, the ways to prove it and of course the eventual trials, which just led to mostly innocent people being killed. If you're a fan of the series then you should enjoy this episode. While it's not going to teach experts anything they didn't already know, those with just general knowledge of the events should find this to be a good way to catch up with the basic events. The documentary does a pretty good job at giving on the general idea of what was going on during this periods and how everything got so out of control. As one expert said, the best way for two neighbors to solve a land dispute was for one to charge the other of being a witch. Again, there's nothing ground-breaking here but it's good entertainment.

She could stop time altogether, allowing her to move freely while the rest of the world stood still. She could even go back in time, reliving moments that had already come to pass. But such power came with a price. The more Morgana used the Mercurial Clock, the more it demanded of her. It drained her energy, leaving her weak and vulnerable. She became consumed by her quest for control over time, neglecting everything else in her life. As Morgana delved deeper into her obsession with the Mercurial Clock, she began to lose touch with reality. She no longer saw time as a natural occurrence, but rather as a toy to be manipulated at her whim. She became detached from the world around her, existing solely in her own distorted reality. The people in the nearby village grew fearful of Morgana and her strange powers. They saw her as a danger, a threat to their way of life. They began to whisper rumors of her wickedness, claiming that she used her powers for evil. But Morgana paid no heed to the whispers of the villagers. She had become consumed by her own power, unable to see the wreckage she left in her wake. She had become the witch of the mercurial clock, lost in a world of her own creation. In the end, the power of the Mercurial Clock consumed Morgana entirely. She lost herself in the madness of manipulating time, forgetting who she once was. She became a mere puppet of the clock, forever trapped in its grasp. And so, the tale of the witch of the mercurial clock serves as a cautionary reminder of the dangers of obsession and the pursuit of power. It is a chilling reminder that no matter how great the temptation, one must always remember the consequences that come with such great power..

1. Jane - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with "Witch of the Mercurial Clock". The plot was confusing and seemed to jump around with no clear direction. The characters were shallow and unlikeable, making it difficult to connect with the story. The writing style was also lacking, with awkward and clunky sentences that made it hard to get through. Overall, I found this book to be a letdown and would not recommend it.
2. Mike - 1 star - "Witch of the Mercurial Clock" was one of the worst books I've ever read. The storyline was convoluted and lacked cohesion, making it nearly impossible to follow. I finished this book feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. Save yourself the trouble and steer clear of this one.
