The Science of Dealing with a Bad Boss: Strategies from DPLL

By admin

Bad Boss Voodoo DPLL A bad boss can be a nightmare to work with. They can make your life miserable, not just at work, but also outside of it. Many employees have experienced the negative effects of working under a bad boss, and it can have a significant impact on their mental and physical well-being. One of the common characteristics of a bad boss is their lack of empathy and understanding. They fail to recognize the unique needs and challenges of their employees, making it difficult for them to feel valued and supported. This lack of empathy can lead to a toxic work environment, where employees are constantly on edge, afraid to make mistakes or ask for help.

First some background. I've been building a shoe rotation over the last 12 months. I've progressed from having 1 pair of stability trainers to now having 4 pairs of neutral shoes for various purposes.

How those parts will interact together and respond to unique loading patterns is still being studied, but I suspect that firmer layers will bias the underfoot feeling toward being firm. The Magic Speed 2 felt extremely firm and stiff, likely due to the bottom layer of material being less resilient compliant combined with the stiffness of the TPU Carbon plate.

This lack of empathy can lead to a toxic work environment, where employees are constantly on edge, afraid to make mistakes or ask for help. Another aspect of a bad boss is their tendency to micromanage. They feel the need to control every aspect of their employees' work, leading to a lack of autonomy and creativity.

Asics Magic Speed 3 - You complete me

First some background. I've been building a shoe rotation over the last 12 months. I've progressed from having 1 pair of stability trainers to now having 4 pairs of neutral shoes for various purposes.

My original pair were Asics Kayano 28. I liked these shoes, very comfortable, but as I upped my milage I realised they were heavy and not suited to my faster days. I also read around and studied my own foot landing and ankle strength and figured I'd been a victim of the 'everyone gets stability shoes when they go to the store' phenomenon.

I ventured out to New Balance 1080s. Then to Asics Evoride 2. Then Asics Novablast 3. These 3 replaced the Kayanos to the point I gave them away at the 430 mile mark.

NB 1080s are my 'stability' shoes now, used for easy days and long runs if I'm feeling tired. The Evoride are my strides, intervals, and tempo shoes. I also used to race in them. The Novablasts are my recovery day and long slow shoes. Very comfortable but I find the extra bounce lacks a bit of stability.

The Evorides made the biggest differece to my running. They opened a new world and feeling under my feet. Now I'm running 25+ miles per week and following a proper training plan for a HM race I decided to look for a dedicated racer. I did some reading around, I obviously like Asics as you can tell, and studied the differences in their line-up. I don't consider myself to need to a big bucks super shoe, so the Magic Speed 3 seemed to fit the bill. Also the looks remind me of my Evorides and reviews seemed to back this up. So I took the plunge.

First run in them today and I felt like a gazelle springing gaily across the savannah! They are so comfortable. They feel like my Evorides, but with more pop and more comfort. Ideal. My last 10k race was in my Evorides and although fine my feet were a bit tired at the end. Not in the MS3. In my run today I nonchalantly ticked off a nice warm up, 10k at race pace (almost exactly the same as my PB in a race), and cool down. I've been training for a HM so perhaps it's not surprising I'm feeling faster over 10k, but I was really taken back by how good it felt. Like there was more in the tank if I wanted to go faster. It became more about managing my heart rate and breathing rather than nursing my tiring legs.

This is my first run in a plated shoe and I now feel like I've been missing out! So much fun.

MS3: light, comfortable but firm under foot, can still feel the ground, smooth transitions, propulsion! Amazing.

EDIT: for context I've run 2 HM races before around 10 years ago, current PB 1:44. In my race next month I'm targeting 1:38. My 10k PB from July is 45:23. My easy days are run at 9mins/mile.

This is my first run in a plated shoe and I now feel like I've been missing out! So much fun.

It is essential for organizations to address such behaviors promptly and provide a safe and supportive work environment.
