As the beauty assistant here at Allure, I test makeup all day long (insert smiley face emoji), and yet no mascara has come close to the volume and length I get from eyelash extensions — until now. A few swipes of the deeply pigmented MAC Magic Extension Mascara lift my stick-straight, short lashes and bring life back to my Zoom’d-out eyes — so much so that the results are comparable to the eye-opening effect I get from falsies.
All of this lifting and separating took MAC R&D more than half a year to perfect. The formula lengthens so well because it is saturated with 5 millimeter-long synthetic fibers (they are some of the longest on the market; on average, lengthening fibers in other mascaras are 1.5 or 2 millimeters long). The fibers add “volume, fullness, thickness and most importantly, length to lashes — without fallout or flaking,” says Betty Quan-Young, MAC’s Product Development Director. The wand’s conical shape reaches inner corners while its dense wires “stretch the lash length and maintain complete separation,” says Quan-Young.

I was really excited to try out the Magic xtnsion mascara from Mac as I had heard good things about it. However, I was extremely disappointed with the results. Firstly, the mascara clumped my lashes together, making them look spidery and unnatural. I had to spend extra time trying to separate them with a lash comb. Secondly, the mascara smudged and flaked throughout the day, leaving me with raccoon eyes. I couldn't wait to remove it. Overall, I would not recommend this mascara to anyone looking for a natural and long-lasting formula.

I had high hopes for the Magic xtnsion mascara from Mac, but unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. The formula felt too thick and heavy on my lashes, making them feel weighed down. Additionally, I experienced some irritation and redness after using this mascara. I will not be repurchasing it.

The wand applicator was too bulky and made it difficult to reach the shorter lashes in the inner corners of my eyes. The formula was also clumpy and did not provide the length or volume I desired. Even after multiple coats, my lashes still looked sparse and lackluster. Overall, I was not impressed with this mascara and there are definitely better options available on the market.

Although the Magic xtnsion mascara from Mac had its flaws, it did have some positives. The mascara gave my lashes a decent amount of length and separation. However, it did not provide much volume or curl, which was disappointing. The formula was also quite wet, causing some smudging and flaking throughout the day. I liked that the mascara was easily removable, but overall, it did not meet my expectations and I will be looking for a better alternative.
