1. John - 2 stars - I was really excited to read "Something Close to Magic" by Emma Milla, as I typically enjoy magical realism books. However, this one fell flat for me. The storyline felt disjointed and lacking depth. The characters were underdeveloped and I found it difficult to connect with any of them. Additionally, the writing style was inconsistent, with some moments of beautiful prose and other times feeling rushed and poorly edited. Overall, I was disappointed with this book and wouldn't recommend it to others.
2. Sarah - 1 star - "Something Close to Magic" by Emma Milla was a complete letdown. The magical elements promised in the synopsis were barely present throughout the entire book. The writing was unremarkable, lacking any sense of wonder or imagination that is usually expected in a magical realism novel. The main character was annoying and lacked any depth, making it hard to care about her journey. The plot was predictable and unsatisfying, leaving me feeling unfulfilled by the end. I was truly disappointed by this book and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
