Unraveling the History of Today's Pagan Festival

By admin

Today is a pagan holiday known as Beltane. Beltane, also spelled Beltaine, is a Gaelic festival that celebrates the beginning of summer. It is usually observed on the first day of May and marks the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Beltane has its origins in ancient Celtic traditions and is still celebrated by modern pagans and Wiccans. The name Beltane derives from the Old Irish "Bealtaine" or "Bealtuinn," which means "bright fire." Fire is an important symbol of this holiday and is often used in rituals and festivities.

Reichel/Pugh Wallycento Magic Carpet 3 – Maxi Class Winner, previously won 2014 Wally Class (built by Wally Yachts)

Reichel/Pugh-designed Wallycento Magic Carpet 3 , owned by Sir Lindsay Owen Jones with Jochen Schuemann on tactics, won the Maxi Class. Third place in the Maxi Class went to the other Reichel/Pugh Wallycento taking part, Galateia, owned by David Leuschen, with tactician Murray Jones. One of the longest supporters of both the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup and the International Maxi Association Owen Jones remarked, "I am very happy…None of us had the faintest idea how it would work out against all this incredible fleet including Comanche and Rambler, but Magic Carpet 3 is an awesome all-round design”. Three of the four races were won overall with Highland Fling race 1 and 2 and Galateia winning race 4.

Winning History of Magic Carpet 3

  • 2017 - Wally Class Season Championship - 2nd Place
  • 2017 - Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta - 1st Place Wally Class

  • 2015 - Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup - Overall Winner Wally Class
  • 2014 - Rolex Giraglia Race - Line Honours
  • 2014 - Wally Championship - Overall Winner (winning three of five regattas)

A particular mention of merit went to Lord Irvine Laidlaw's Reichel/Pugh custom 82’ Highland Fling XI, with Bouwe Bekking calling tactics, as they were forced off a near Maxi Class overall win by a failed forestay attachment. The 82’ Highland Fling has previously won her class at the Maxi Rolex three times in 2011, 2014 and 2017.

Finally, Alessandro Del Bono's Reichel/Pugh 78’ Maxi Capricorno (originally built in 1995 as Morning Glory II) swept the Mini Maxi 2 Class with top three finishes, guided by tactician Flavio Favini. Launched as Morning Glory, Capricorno has a deep history previously winning the 1997 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, Fastnet Race, 2,225nm Cape Town-Rio Race (Broke Course Record), the Sydney-Hobart Race (Shattered 21-year-old Course Record) and 2,700nm Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (Broke Course Record).

  • 1996 - 2,225nm Cape Town-Rio Race - Broke Course Record, Line honors, 1st Place
  • 1996 - Sydney-Hobart - Line honors - Shattering 21-year-old record

Alessandro Del Bono reflected, “We are obviously pleased, in spite of being 26 years old, the boat has proved that it's still very fast. This victory is a great reward for both the crew, most of whom have been with us for 25 years, and for my father and my son, we have three generations of the family on board.”

At the prize-giving, the IMA's Secretary General Andrew McIrvine presented Sir Lindsay Owen Jones with the Trophy for 'Highest Placed IMA member' while the Paolo Massarini Trophy (named after the manager of several notable classes, such as the Wallys, who died last year) was presented to Capricorno's Alessandro del Bono by Paolo's wife Alessandra.

What pagan holiday is tday

Beltane is a time of fertility and abundance. It is a celebration of the earth's fertility and the renewal of nature. This is why it is often associated with May Day and traditional Maypole dancing. The Maypole represents the phallic symbol of the god and the ribbons that dancers weave around it symbolize the intertwining of masculine and feminine energies. In addition to fertility, Beltane is also a time to honor the connection between the human and the spiritual realms. It is believed that on Beltane, the veil between the worlds is thinner, and communication with spirits and fairies is easier. Some pagans and Wiccans perform rituals on Beltane to connect with these otherworldly beings and seek their guidance and blessings. Overall, Beltane is a festive and joyful holiday that celebrates the coming of summer and the vitality of life. It is a time to connect with nature, honor ancient traditions, and embrace the abundance and fertility of the earth..

Reviews for "Uncovering the Gods and Goddesses Celebrated on Today's Pagan Holiday"

I found "What pagan holiday is today" to be quite disappointing. The book lacked depth and failed to provide any meaningful insights into the topic. The author's writing style was uninspiring and the content felt repetitive. I was hoping to gain a better understanding of pagan holidays, but this book fell short of my expectations. I would not recommend it to others seeking a comprehensive exploration of the subject.
2. Emily - 1 star
"What pagan holiday is today" was a complete waste of my time. The author seemed more interested in promoting their personal beliefs than providing factual information about pagan holidays. The book was filled with unfounded claims and lacked proper citations. Additionally, the writing was disjointed and poorly organized, making it difficult to follow the author's train of thought. I would strongly advise readers to steer clear of this book if they are looking for accurate and reliable information on pagan holidays.
3. David - 2 stars
I must admit, I was excited to dive into "What pagan holiday is today," but unfortunately, it left me unsatisfied. The book lacked proper research and relied too heavily on personal anecdotes rather than factual evidence. The author's biased perspective was evident throughout, which undermined the credibility of the information presented. I was hoping for a more objective and informative read, but this book failed to deliver. I would recommend looking for alternative sources to gain a better understanding of pagan holidays.
