"Wotch rong toss" Have you ever watched a sports game where the team you support makes mistake after mistake? The frustration and disappointment can be overwhelming. It is not uncommon for fans to yell out in exasperation, "What's wrong with us?" This sentiment can also apply to individuals in their personal and professional lives. There are times when we feel like everything is going wrong, like we are constantly making mistakes and nothing is going according to plan. In these moments, we may find ourselves asking, "What's wrong with me?" It is important to remember that everyone makes mistakes and experiences setbacks. Life is not always smooth sailing, and it is normal to encounter obstacles along the way. It is how we respond to these challenges that defines us.

Yule, or the original 12-day solstice festival celebrated thousands of years before Christmas, is considered one of the oldest celebrations of wintertime in the world. It begins the shortest day of the year on the winter solstice and ends 12 days later. This year, that would mean yule marks December 21, 2022 through January 1, 2023.

There are a lot of really nice melodies out there, traditional folk songs and old time Christian hymns, that cry for better or at least different words. Nat King Cole famously sang, Jack Frost nipping at your nose Yuletide carols being sung by a choir, and when we deck the halls, we re expected to troll the ancient yuletide carol.

It is how we respond to these challenges that defines us. Instead of dwelling on what is going wrong, it is helpful to focus on finding solutions. Taking a step back and objectively evaluating the situation can provide clarity and a fresh perspective.

Winter Solstice / Yule

Winter Solstice is also known as Yule. It’s on December 21st in both 2020 and 2021. Many of the traditions celebrated as part of modern Christmas were borrowed from earlier pagan folk traditions: the Yule log, the decorated tree, the giving of gifts. As pagans we reclaim the roots of these customs. Besides, we like giving and receiving presents! We have two Yule songs on the Seasons album. Darkness, Holy Be reminds us of the beauty and power of the time of darkness. The chant A Long, Long Night is perfect for those who honor the longest night of the year by keeping vigil from dusk to dawn.

It is essential to identify the root causes of the issues and devise a plan for improvement. Furthermore, seeking support from others can be beneficial. Whether it is friends, family, or colleagues, discussing the challenges we are facing can provide insight and advice. Sometimes, an outside perspective is all we need to see the bigger picture. It is also crucial to practice self-compassion and self-care. Beating ourselves up over mistakes and failures will not lead to growth or success. Instead, embrace the lessons learned from these experiences and use them as stepping stones towards improvement. Remember, everyone faces setbacks and makes mistakes. What truly matters is how we respond and learn from these challenges. So, the next time you find yourself asking, "What's wrong with me?" remember that it is a temporary state and an opportunity for growth and development..
