In Colonial times, people believed they could protect their home from evil spirits by attracting the spirits with the bubby , colourful surface of the spirit ball, The evil spirit would into the hole and become traped in the glass strings inside,( again, i feel that the Witch ball and the Spirit ball are the same, as i wrote that the Spirit ball would have a open hoe and the Witch ball not, My Spirit balls at home are without holes they work the same, it takes about 2weeks for a Witch or Spirit ball to ball, as will the Balls are to take away any negtive energy that is around, The spirits will go to the ball they love colour anything bright.)

Butler Balls resemble Gazing balls more than Witch balls in that they are reflective.This quality was useful by butlers and maids to observe the behavior of guests of the house without directly staring at them, For example , when properly placed, the Butler Globe would allow the servant to glimpse at the globe to notice who was done with their meals to take away their plates or see who may need a refill of their tea without constantly watching throughout the meal.
