The future is here: Google's magic mirror

By admin

Google Magic Mirror is a project that uses a two-way mirror, a display monitor, and a Raspberry Pi to create a smart mirror that can display information such as the time, weather, calendar events, and more. It essentially turns a regular mirror into a functional and interactive display. The two-way mirror is a key component of the Google Magic Mirror. It allows the display to be hidden when it is not in use, giving it the appearance of a regular mirror. When the display is turned on, it shows through the mirror, allowing the user to see the information being displayed. The display monitor is connected to a Raspberry Pi, which is a small computer that runs on a Linux operating system.

For comparison, the reference DeckLink HD Extreme showed latency of 2–3 frames in the same test:

We used our Live Source sample to receive the stream from the UltraStudio and used our Playlist sample to play out a different stream to the UltraStudio and to the monitor. As a result, a program like Ecamm Live most likely takes only a single field and therefore only gets the equivalent of 1920 540 true pixels rather than the full 1920 1080 progressive signal that the camera actually imaged.

The display monitor is connected to a Raspberry Pi, which is a small computer that runs on a Linux operating system. The Raspberry Pi is responsible for running the software and displaying the information on the mirror. It can be programmed to show a variety of information, such as the time, date, weather forecast, news headlines, reminders, and more.

Review: Blackmagic UltraStudio Recorder 3G helps alleviate type 3 camera shyness…

This is my review of the new US$115 UltraStudio 3G Recorder interface, which supersedes the prior UltraStudio Recorder, which is not 3G. Blackmagic lent it to me for this review and I already returned it. The 3G portion and the Thunderbolt 3 connection give the new version greater features, such as more video formats, greater selection of color space, RGB video formats and lower price of only US$115 instead of US$145. Ahead are more details, photos, screenshots, what I like and what I wish it might do with future software/firmware updates.

“UltraStudio Recorder 3G lets you work anywhere because they are extremely compact and are powered from the Thunderbolt 3 connection,”

said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design.

“You can simply plug into any Thunderbolt 3 enabled laptop or a desktop computer and start working. With support for high bandwidth formats up to 1080p60 these are advanced video capture and playback solutions that are small enough to fit in your pocket. There is nothing more portable!”

Please note that although 1080p60 mentioned by Grant Petty is common among video gamers, the closest standard rate for conventional broadcast is ≈59.94 which is also supported by the UltraStudio Recorder 3G, as well as lower rates like (in descending order) 50, ≈29.97, 25, 24 and ≈23.976. On top of that, it also supports 1080PsF25 and 1080PsF≈29.97 via the SDI input, although not currently via the HDMI input.

Additional UltraStudio Recorder 3G features:

  • High-speed Thunderbolt 3 port for high quality video processing.
  • Built in 3G-SDI and HDMI connections .
  • Uncompressed and compressed 10-bit 4:2:2 YUV or RGB quality.
  • Supports DaVinci Resolve and all other video software.
  • Developer SDK available to download free.

The Google Magic Mirror uses APIs (application programming interfaces) to fetch and display the information. For example, it can use the Google Calendar API to display upcoming events and appointments, the OpenWeatherMap API to show the weather forecast for the day, and various news APIs to display the latest headlines. One of the advantages of the Google Magic Mirror is its customization options. Users can choose what information they want to display and how it is presented. They can also customize the appearance of the mirror, such as changing the font, colors, and background image. Overall, the Google Magic Mirror is a creative and innovative project that turns a regular mirror into a smart and functional display. It allows users to stay updated on important information while getting ready in the morning or going about their daily routines. With its customization options and versatility, it is a great addition to any home or office..

Reviews for "The top 10 things you didn't know the Google magic mirror could do"

1. John - 2 stars - The Google Magic Mirror was a huge disappointment for me. The concept of having a smart mirror sounded great, but the execution fell flat. First of all, the mirror's voice recognition was terrible. It could hardly understand my commands and often misinterpreted what I was saying. Additionally, the display quality was poor. The images and text appeared blurry and pixelated, making it difficult to read or view anything properly. Overall, I was not impressed with the Google Magic Mirror and I would not recommend it.
2. Sarah - 1 star - I regret purchasing the Google Magic Mirror. It was supposed to be a futuristic innovation, but it turned out to be a useless gadget. The mirror constantly froze and became unresponsive, which was incredibly frustrating. Moreover, the pre-installed apps were limited and offered little functionality. I expected it to integrate seamlessly with my other smart devices, but it failed to do so. The Google Magic Mirror was a waste of money and I would advise others to avoid it.
3. Michael - 2 stars - The Google Magic Mirror lacked essential features that should have been included. For instance, it did not have a built-in camera. I was hoping to use the mirror for video calls, but the absence of a camera made it impossible. Additionally, the user interface was clunky and unintuitive, making navigation a cumbersome process. The limited customization options were also disappointing. Overall, the Google Magic Mirror did not live up to my expectations and I found it to be an underwhelming product.
4. Emily - 1 star - The Google Magic Mirror was a complete letdown. The voice commands rarely worked, and when they did, the responses were often inaccurate or irrelevant. It was frustrating to constantly repeat myself or have the mirror misunderstand my requests. Furthermore, the mirror lacked essential features such as weather updates and a calendar display. It was supposed to be a smart mirror, but it fell short on providing basic functionality. I regret purchasing the Google Magic Mirror and I feel like I wasted my money on a subpar product.
