A lot of people seem to imply that "Stoner Witch" is a huge deviation in style from what "Houdini" was. And while yes it certainly does future more Stoner Rock in it and less Sludge is it really that big a departure? Once again the second half just goes off the deep end like "Houdini" did only instead of stripped back Sludge we have some Ambient Noise and Experimental Rock passages. We still have the first song being a real awkward choice for an opener (and much like "Hooch", it's not a bad song but as an opener it's just jarring as a thing to start with), and we still end on a long, drawn out Experimental piece that barely has a trace of Rock anything in it.

Now just to make it clear I don't think this is better than "Houdini" as an overall album. But I do think it has a lot more standout individual tracks on it, and it certainly is a well made and good follow up to such a record. "Revolve" may sound like a warped Metallica song but its catchy hook and balls to the walls instrumentals give it just as much kick as tracks like "Lizzy" did. The styling and presentation of the tracks is just different; but as far as I'm concerned their very much on a similar level. I think the main noteworthy thing that "Stoner Witch" has over previous albums like "Houdini" is the Ambient stylings that creep in more heavily on the second half. "Houdini" only really gave us "Sky Pup" and "Pearl Bomb" which only half way commit to that style. Here "Shevil", "Lividity", The first half of "Magic Pig Detective" and even the more toned down Blues vibes of "Goose Freight Train" add this nice dynamic, split personality to the project that I don't think albums like "Houdini" really had.

"Stoner Witch" I believe really has a personality all unto its own and can proudly sit next tot he likes of "Houdini" and stack up just as well against it. a definitive next release that is clearly a band in its stride that was, and has, never been afraid to challenge themselves and mix it up a little, even mid-album.

Does the MOV copy have Queen and Revolve at a lower volume than the rest of the song as well? Have only owned this version so I have no point of comparison
