MIDNIGHT MAGIC

Conspiracies, intrigue, murder, deceit, apparitions, dusty secret passages, false identities, a clever investigator, and his loyal if credulous young servant: Avi’s new page-turner has it all. Not long after scholarly old Mangus is forced into renouncing magical powers he never claimed to possess, he is abruptly summoned to the nearby Castello Pergamontio; it seems that Princess Teresina, 10, claims to have seen a ghost. His servant and narrator, Fabrizio, soon discovers that the situation is far from cut-and-dried; the heir, Prince Lorenzo, is gone, perhaps murdered, and the princess is about to be secretly married to sinister Count Scarazoni—unless the superstitious King Claudio calls the wedding off. Mangus, who doesn—t believe in the supernatural, says the ghost is not real, but Fabrizio has no doubt after seeing a gesticulating, weirdly lit figure. Then Teresina’s tutor is found dead. Enmeshing his protagonist in webs of conflicting plots and alliances, Avi brings the suspenseful plot to a climactic boil in which Scarazoni is tricked into confessing that he killed both the tutor and the prince—or tried to, as Lorenzo has been around the whole time, disguised as a kitchen boy. Readers, especially fans of John Bellairs’s books, will be riveted from page one. (Fiction. 11-13)

2. John - 1 out of 5 stars - As a science enthusiast, I was excited to try out the National Geographic Magic Chemistry Set, but it turned out to be a complete letdown. The experiments were overly simplified and lacked depth, making them uninteresting for anyone with a basic understanding of chemistry. Additionally, the quality of the materials was subpar, with the test tubes and other equipment feeling cheap and flimsy. Save your money and invest in a more comprehensive chemistry set instead.
3. Emily - 2 out of 5 stars - I found the National Geographic Magic Chemistry Set to be quite underwhelming. The experiments seemed more like magic tricks than actual chemistry experiments, and there was very little educational value to them. The set also lacked important safety guidelines, which is concerning when dealing with potentially hazardous chemicals. Overall, I was not impressed with this set and would not recommend it for those looking to learn about chemistry in a meaningful way.
4. Mike - 1 out of 5 stars - The National Geographic Magic Chemistry Set was a huge disappointment. The experiments were overly simplistic and did not provide any real insight into the world of chemistry. The materials provided were easily breakable and the instructions were not clear, making it frustrating to even attempt the experiments. I would not recommend this set to anyone serious about learning chemistry.
