MAGIC: THE GATHERING Reveals First LORD OF THE RINGS Cards
Middle-earth seems to be all around us these days. We’re still waiting on fresh news from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘s season two, but other Tolkien adventures are giving us plenty of things to feel excited about. Recently, Wizards of the Coast announced the newest Magic: The Gathering collection’s Tolkien tie-in. The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth collection comes out on June 23, 2023. The artwork for the first revealed cards is a stunning addition to the already rich tapestry of Middle-earth, and we can’t wait to see even more. Recently, we got a good look at the first revealed cards from The Lord of the Rings‘ collaboration with Magic. Magic: The Gathering revealed many of Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth‘s offerings. From Frodo to Sam to Tom Bombadil to Arwen, the Shire, and more, here is some of what you can look forward to:

Of course, Magic will create some special cards to serve as Middle-earth’s magical rings. These rare cards’ availability will be based on Tolkien’s iconic poem detailing how many of each kind of ring were made. (Three rings for the elven kings means 300 or 3,000 versions of that card, etc.) And, in the end, that, of course, leaves us with just one ring. Yes. The initial news was from a slate of announcements Wizards of the Coast made about both Magic and Dungeons & Dragons offerings coming up in 2023 as Magic celebrates its 30th anniversary. We’ll also see a Doctor Who set coming soon. For both, alchemy sets will also be available for digital players of Magic: The Gathering Arena.

The set has two primary launch windows—June 2023 and a holiday launch in November 2023—and is the first full set release as part of Universes Beyond, bringing the iconic world of J.R.R. Tolkien to life within the Magic frame. The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth is modern legal and comprised of Draft, Set, Collector, and Jumpstart Boosters, four Commander decks, a Starter Kit, a Bundle and Gift Bundle, Scene Boxes, and Secret Lair drops.

Other Nerdy Sets
Even though scientists declared Magic: The Gathering the world’s most complex game, it’s clear that it offers something for everyone. There’s My Little Pony cards after all. Other recent crossovers include Stranger Things, FortNite, and Street Fighter. But no mashup has ever made me want to own a set more than the Bob Ross painting “Happy Little Gathering” landscapes collection. Maybe it’s not too late to get into Magic.
If the game still doesn’t seem like quite your thing, you can always watch other people play. Like this delightful video of Joseph Gordon-Levitt opening his boxes of Magic cards for the first time since he was a kid. Or the Netflix animated series starring Brandon Routh, allegedly coming soon.

Suddenly, a cold gust of wind swept through the tomb, extinguishing my torch and plunging me into total darkness. Panic gripped me as I fumbled in the blackness, desperately searching for another source of light. My hands brushed against something cold and metallic. I quickly realized it was a lantern left behind by a previous explorer. **With trembling hands, I struck a match and ignited the lantern, bathing the tomb in a dim, flickering glow**. As the light spread, I noticed intricate hieroglyphics covering the walls. They depicted ancient rituals, forgotten gods, and gruesome scenes of death and suffering. The air grew thick with a nauseating smell, a mixture of decay and something more sinister. **I could almost hear the whispers of the past, calling to me, urging me to leave, warning me of the dangers that lay ahead**. Pressing forward, I entered a chamber that seemed to be untouched by time. It housed a stone sarcophagus, ornately decorated with gold and precious gemstones. **The temptation to reach out and pry open the sarcophagus was overwhelming, but I resisted, knowing that meddling with the resting place of the dead was a grave mistake**. Continuing my exploration, I soon found myself in a labyrinth of narrow corridors, each one more treacherous than the last. The stone walls seemed to close in around me, as if mocking my futile attempts to escape. The air grew stagnant, almost suffocating. It was as if the very tomb itself was alive, responding to my presence with a malevolent energy. At long last, I reached the heart of the tomb, a vast chamber filled with the remains of the long-deceased. Glittering treasures adorned the room, but I paid them no heed. **My only thought was to escape the curse that had trapped me in this nightmarish place**. With every step, the weight of the tomb's oppressive energy threatened to crush me. Finally, I stumbled upon a secret passage that led to the outside world, bathed in sunlight and fresh air. The moment I emerged from the cursed tomb, I felt a great weight lift from my shoulders. **The petrifying journey through the cursed tomb had changed me forever, leaving me with a newfound respect for the power of the past and a chilling understanding of the consequences of disturbing the resting places of the dead**..

- Sarah - 2/5 - I was really excited to go on the "Petrifying journey through the cursed tomb" based on all the hype it received, but I was left disappointed. The whole experience felt rushed and poorly executed. The scares were predictable and lacked any real intensity. The set design was also underwhelming and lacked attention to detail. Overall, I expected much more from this attraction and would not recommend it.
- John - 1/5 - This was by far the worst haunted house experience I've ever had. The "Petrifying journey through the cursed tomb" was nothing more than a cheap attempt at scaring people. The actors were not convincing, and the jump scares were poorly timed. It felt like they didn't put any effort or thought into the entire experience. Save your money and look for a better haunted house attraction.
