It may have been a few months since the season-two finale of Euphoria, but the show's makeup has never left my mind. Euphoria's approach to makeup has, without question, become one of the most inspirational forces in the beauty world today—#euphoriamakeup has 1.4 billion views on TikTok, and glitter has become a red-carpet and runway mainstay since the show premiered—and starting today, it will be easier than ever to create a look inspired by the show.

Today, May 17, the show's head of makeup, Donni Davy, is finally releasing her own line, Half Magic Beauty. While the brand is much more than a “Euphoria makeup line”—though it's supported by A24, the studio behind the show—the series' DNA is all over the products, from the glittering eyeliner to self-adhesive rhinestones.

We all know Euphoria doesn't shy away from the darker sides of life, but Half Magic is much more fun: The colors are bright, the packaging is decorated with Pegasuses and butterflies, and the products have cheeky names like Mouth Cloud. “I wanted to inspire joy and creativity from the outer packaging, the inner packaging, the colors,” Davy previously told Glamour. “Everything is for the user to just be delighted by.”

In fact, Davy was more inspired by the reaction to the show's makeup than the show itself when creating the line. “Obviously the line was born out of Euphoria, but I really want the brand to stand alone as its own entity,” she says. “When I was thinking about the products and the colors and all of that, I wasn't thinking about the Euphoria characters. I was really thinking about all these people online, who I'm really inspired by, who have, firstly, inspired what I did in season one for Euphoria. Those looks in turn inspired me, and it's this endless circle.”

“I really wanted to create a brand that would be friendly and nonintimidating and super fun for the newbie makeup artist,” she continues. “But because of my experience working on film and TV, I wanted the formulas to be high-pigment and long-wearing and beautifully performing formulas that makeup experts would look at and want to have in their kit.” The result? A versatile collection of 10 products and tools that can be used to create looks that would be just as at home on Maddy at the carnival as they would be at the grocery store.

I had the privilege of meeting Davy ahead of the launch, who expertly applied each product. Read on for my honest review of the line.

Reviews for "Card Magic for Beginners: Embarking on the Royal Road"

1. John Smith - 2/5
I found "The Royal Road to Card Magic" to be rather disappointing. The book claims to offer a comprehensive guide to learning card magic, but I found the explanations to be vague and hard to follow. The illustrations were often unclear, making it difficult to understand the proper hand positions and movements needed to perform the tricks. Additionally, some of the tricks felt outdated and lacked the flair and excitement of more modern card magic performances. Overall, I was left feeling unimpressed and unsatisfied with this book.
2. Sarah Jones - 3/5
While "The Royal Road to Card Magic" does provide a good foundation for beginners, I found it lacking in more advanced techniques. The book focuses heavily on the basics and seems to spend too much time on tricks that are relatively simple and well-known. I was hoping for more in-depth instruction on more advanced sleight of hand techniques and intricate card manipulations. It also didn't offer much innovation in terms of new tricks or variations on existing ones. While it may be a decent starting point for beginners, I wouldn't recommend it to those looking to take their card magic skills to the next level.
3. Emily Wilson - 2/5
I was quite disappointed with "The Royal Road to Card Magic". As someone who has some experience in card magic, I was expecting more advanced techniques and more challenging tricks. Unfortunately, this book seemed to be more geared towards beginners, offering explanations for basic moves that I was already familiar with. The book also lacked variety, as it relied heavily on standard card tricks without adding any unique or original material. Overall, I found it to be a repetitive and unstimulating read that didn't offer much value for someone looking to expand their card magic skills.
4. Michael Brown - 1/5
"The Royal Road to Card Magic" was a complete letdown for me. The explanations provided were confusing and poorly written. It was difficult to understand the steps and techniques required to perform the tricks, and the accompanying illustrations did little to clarify things. The book also seemed to assume a baseline level of knowledge that I did not possess as a beginner. I was hoping this book would be a helpful guide, but instead, it left me feeling frustrated and discouraged. I would not recommend this book to anyone looking to learn card magic.
