Wicca and Satanism are two distinct religious beliefs that are often misunderstood and confused with one another. While both of these belief systems may be considered "alternative" or "occult" by mainstream religions, they have significant differences in terms of their central tenets, rituals, and spiritual practices. Wicca is a modern Pagan religion that was developed in the mid-20th century and is based on ancient pagan traditions. Wiccans honor and worship a Goddess and a God, and their beliefs are centered around the reverence for nature and the cycles of life and death. Wicca promotes the idea of a balance between masculine and feminine energies and encourages practitioners to live in harmony with nature. Wiccans perform rituals, often in small groups called covens, to celebrate seasonal festivals, practice divination, and manifest their desires through spellwork.

We are Children of Gaia – a traditional coven of witches located in Astoria, OR. We meet in person regularly; learning, socializing and having ritual, among other things. We are Cassandra Tradition Witches. Our tradition is over 20 years old, created by two high priestesses from a liberal Gardnerian line, one of whom also has extensive training and experience in Reclaiming Tradition Witchcraft. The founders, Anastasha and RavenFire have a combined 60-some years of experience.

By this I mean that it s not uncommon for a witch, particularly on the West Coast the Bay Area is the nucleus of American witchcraft , to find herself in more than one committed relationship at a time. We are not about a particular political party, but we ARE about caring for the environment, that the natural world has intrinsic value and a right to exist that has nothing to do with what is convenient or profitable for humanity, fighting oppression, economic equity, anti-racist and anti-fascist.

On the other hand, Satanism is an atheistic religion that rejects the idea of a literal supernatural being called Satan and instead uses Satan as a symbol of rebellion, individualism, and enlightenment.

While there are different branches of Satanism, LaVeyan Satanism, founded by Anton LaVey in the 1960s, is the most well-known. LaVeyan Satanism encourages self-indulgence, personal empowerment, and the pursuit of one's desires without causing harm to others. Rituals in Satanism are often theatrical and symbolic, aiming to challenge societal norms and promote personal growth. Satanists reject the idea of an afterlife or divine punishment and emphasize the importance of critical thinking and self-reliance. Despite some misconceptions, Wicca and Satanism have little in common in terms of their belief systems. Wiccans do not worship or believe in Satan or any evil entities, and their practices are rooted in nature and the celebration of life. Satanism, on the other hand, rejects the idea of supernatural beings and focuses on individualism and personal enlightenment.
