D23: What sets Disney’s Summer Magic Quest apart from the previous specials?
Artur Spigel (AS): This time, it’s a new park with new challenges, and new format to the show. For the first time ever, teams are going head-to-head as they make their way around EPCOT.
We ve had the good fortune of working with Disney Parks and Yellow Shoes for about 17 years and have built trust in terms of how we handle Disney intellectual property and show the parks. It is so interesting to see some of the cast of the Zombies movies, such as Milo Manheim, Meg Donnelly, Matt Cornett, Kylee Russell, and Pearce Joza, outside of their movie character personas and to watch their own, genuine reactions.
However, interacting with these creatures can come at a great cost, for they are often malevolent and can bring harm to those who invoke them. Another significant feature of Japanese dark magic is its connection to curses and hexes. Practitioners of Kuro Majutsu are known to cast curses on their enemies, inflicting misfortune and suffering upon them.

If you loved Disney’s Holiday Magic Quest and the new quest-themed reality show on Disney+, then you will definitely want to tune into Disney Channel on Sunday, June 26! According to the Disney Parks Blog, the “first-ever” Disney Summer Magic Quest will be airing at 7 pm — and like Disney’s Holiday Magic Quest, it features four actors from the ZOMBIES series of Disney Channel Original Movies.
The cast of the ZOMBIES films has been very busy filming ZOMBIES 3, which is coming soon and will feature a surprising new enemy, but fans will be happy to learn that the Disney actors were able to make time for this lighthearted competition show! Once again, Yvette Nicole Brown is taking over as the host of the Magic Quest adventure — but this time, the adventure is taking place in EPCOT!

EPCOT attractions like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, the new roller coaster Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and the classic Spaceship Earth will all be shown off as the four ZOMBIES 3 actors compete in two teams to win challenges. Apparently, “whichever team finishes the quest first will ignite the new nighttime spectacular, Harmonious”!

Disney fans who have always wondered what happens in Disney Parks after closing will be eager to watch this fun adventure — and so will fans of the Kingdom Keepers books, which are action-packed books by Disney that reveal exactly those kinds of secrets! The books are also chock-full of behind-the-scenes information from Walt Disney Imagineering.
Lead actors Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim are two of the five Disney actors appearing on the show, and they are accompanied by their co-stars Pearce Joza, Kylee Russell, and Matt Cornett. D23: You previously mentioned your love for the Japan Pavilion, but do you have a favorite attraction at EPCOT?
AS: For the longest time, I think my favorite attraction was Soarin’, but I will say that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is my new favorite. I love that franchise and it’s a whole new experience and different type of attraction—you’re not quite sure what’s happening, but you’re in the middle of this kind of intergalactic chase, and it really takes you somewhere else.

The characters lacked depth and were difficult to empathize with. Moreover, the so-called dark magic elements felt gimmicky and underdeveloped. I found myself skimming through most of the book, hoping for something interesting to happen, but it never did. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.
