Renata and her father enjoy working on upgrading their bathroom, installing a clawfoot bathtub, and cutting a space for a new window. One warm night, after Papi leaves the window space open, two wrens begin making a nest in the bathroom. Rather than seeing it as an unfortunate delay of their project, Renata and Papi decide to let the avian carpenters continue their work. Renata witnesses the birth of four chicks as their rosy eggs split open “like coats that are suddenly too small.” Renata finds at a crucial moment that she can help the chicks learn to fly, even with the bittersweet knowledge that it will only hasten their exits from her life. Rosen uses lively language and well-chosen details to move the story of the baby birds forward. The text suggests the strong bond built by this Afro-Latinx father and daughter with their ongoing project without needing to point it out explicitly, a light touch in a picture book full of delicate, well-drawn moments and precise wording. Garoche’s drawings are impressively detailed, from the nest’s many small bits to the developing first feathers on the chicks and the wall smudges and exposed wiring of the renovation. Haitian American author Doyon creates an affirming story, enhanced by Black illustrator Bowers use of bright colors, lots of bold, face-front images, and beautiful natural settings to positively portray dark skin, African physical features, and highly textured hair.

For instance, if someone were to send out love and kindness towards others, the positive energy they generate would return to them threefold. On the other hand, if someone were to intentionally cause harm or engage in negative actions, that negative energy would come back to them with three times the force.

I was really disappointed with "Wiccan Rule of Three". I found the plot to be weak and predictable, with no surprises or thrilling moments. The characters were one-dimensional and lacked depth, making it hard to connect with or care about their struggles. Additionally, the writing style was basic and lacked creativity. Overall, I was expecting much more from this book and felt let down by the lackluster storytelling.

I couldn't even finish reading "Wiccan Rule of Three" because the writing was so poor. The grammar and spelling mistakes were distracting and made it difficult to focus on the story. It felt like the author didn't put in enough effort to edit and polish their work before publishing it. The dialogue was also unrealistic and robotic, making it hard to believe in the interactions between the characters. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone looking for a well-written and engaging read.
